The Last of Us voice actor Troy Baker has spoken out about the actor he wants to see play Joel in HBO’s upcoming production that will be based on the game. Speaking to Collider, Baker gave his opinion on how Hollywood veteran Josh Brolin would be a “knockout choice” to fill the role that’s currently not been cast.

Collider recently interviewed Troy Baker as part of the Collider Games Podcast and the team was able to ask the actor who he would like to see fill the role of Joel. The actor firstly expressed that he had portrayed Joel to the best of his ability and in his opinion, he has gone as far as he can with that role. He continued by commenting on how he wants to see someone who will bring a different Joel to the screens to show another side to the character that someone else could potentially unlock.

Baker insists that no matter who gets the role, he will be satisfied, as the chosen actor will inevitably give him a new perspective on the character. As many fans of the game have already given their opinions on Josh Brolin’s capabilities, Baker was quick to say he didn’t disagree with them. After reminiscing on a time when he and Brolin had drinks, he finished the conversation with the actor by explaining how much of an influence the actor’s career had had on him. He concluded by encouraging Brolin to pick up the role if it ever came his way, saying that he would be “enriched” to portray Joel.

Josh Brolin Mens Journal Photoshoot

Josh Brolin has had a fulfilled career as an actor for over three decades and has played many roles both treasured and iconic. Kicking his career off with The Goonies, Brolin has worked his way through many genres including westerns and most recently some motion-capture roles. His most noticeable character portrayal within the pop culture realm is his recent gig playing Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He has proved his relentless capabilities to emote various personalities and he’s a great fit for Joel both physically and characteristically.

As Baker is not wildly different looking to Joel, fans have often questioned in the past why he can’t take his role into the live-action himself. However, as previously mentioned, Baker has little to no interest in becoming the iconic father figure on-screen. As HBO’s production has no plans to reveal any casting confirmations just yet, fans will have even more time to debate.
