Ah, True Blood. The vampire drama that enthralled viewers from the first moment it came on our screens in 2008. It became so wildly popular that it took on a life of its own in no time. Audiences were flocking to their televisions every week to watch Sookie Stackhouse and her latest trials and tribulations in the vampire world she found herself in. Not to mention, all of her co-workers and friends who had secrets and supernatural abilities of their own.

Being that this was a show about vampires and werewolves and several other supernatural creatures we met over the course of seven seasons, there was bound to be things that didn't make sense to us as viewers. But some of that was simply because this world was entirely fictional so we had no point of reference.

While that may be the case, there were still plenty of instances throughout the series where we were left scratching our heads and wondering where the logic had gone even in this crazy world we found ourselves entranced by.

Whether it be plotholes or illogical decision making or situations that were utterly comical that were supposed to be taken seriously, there was always something we could point out as being a little bit off in the storyline...even in a vampire show.

So even though we will always love True Blood and can all agree if it were on today, we would still be watching it, there were still things about it that didn't make sense that we just have to address at some point. So here are the 25 Things About True Blood That Make No Sense.

25 Law Enforcement’s Disinterest In Vampire Affairs

via Collider

It’s pretty apparent from the beginning of True Blood that the humans have their own way of dealing with crime, while vampires have their own completely different system they live by. That may have seemed like a good idea in theory, but didn't really work out the way it should have.

Because maybe the humans in law enforcement should have taken more notice of what the vampires get up to, since a lot of the time, humans end up being used as pawns in their schemes or worse…

24 Sookie’s Drastic Transformation

via spoiler TV

Sookie Stackhouse is the heroine of the whole series. She’s half-human/half-fae and can read people’s minds. She also happens to have a thing for vampires.

But one of the more baffling things about her is how she seemed to go from a prim and proper young lady who would be mad if someone even cursed around her to being someone who engages in certain adult activities with her vampire boyfriend in the middle of a graveyard at night.

23 Bill’s Punishment From The Magister

via In-Depth True Blood Analysis

When Bill was being punished for ending fellow vampire Longshadow’s life by the Magister, he was either going to be locked in a coffin with silver keeping him from escaping…or turning a young woman into a vampire.

Bill decided to turn Jessica into a vamp.

What was odd is why the Magister chose the latter option when vampires notoriously give little regard to human life and would normally be happy to turn one into a vampire rather than slowly go insane. It never made sense, seeing as the Magister had no idea that Bill had an aversion to doing so.

22 Sam Keeping Maryann’s Secret From Tara

True Blood Wiki - Fandom

When Maryann took Tara in when she had nowhere to go it was clear she had an evil side to her she was hiding. But Sam Merlotte, Tara’s boss, and former beau, knew that something wasn’t right with Maryann from prior experience.

He just said she should “stay away.”

Even though he had enough knowledge to warn Tara about not staying with her, he never told her what he did know about her.

21 Maryann Waiting So Long To Sacrifice Sam

via Villains Wiki - Fandom

The thing about Maryann was she was a Maenad who wanted to make a sacrifice to her god, Bacchus. The sacrifice was going to be none other than Sam Merlotte which she had decided on long ago.

So the whole point of her storyline in season two was her trying to get to a point where she could sacrifice him. But instead, she waited way too long to get the job done. If she was so powerful, why didn’t she just control everyone’s minds when she first came to Merlotte’s right then and there, making Sam an easy target?

20 Sam Not Using His Shifting Powers At Crucial Moments

TrueBlood-Online.com

We found out pretty early on in season one that most of Sam Merlotte’s odd behavior was easily explained - he was just a Shapeshifter. Meaning, he can imprint on any living thing and subsequently shift into their image.

So if he was able to do that when he was in jail and Maryann was looking for him by turning himself into a fly, why didn’t he use the same technique when the whole town had him corned in his bar and just fly out of there undetected, without Andy and Jason’s help?

19 The Fellowship Of The Sun Not Being Reprimanded

via Rolling Stone

The Fellowship of the Sun was an organization that was a prevalent part of season 2 (as well as some other seasons). They were known for their hatred of vampires — and wanting to eradicate them from Earth.

But seeing as vampires are looked at as citizens just like humans now, why weren’t they in further trouble, especially considering some of the things they did (like try to bomb the vampires). And when the bomb went off and not only harmed the vampires but humans, you would think that it would be immediate grounds for jail time. So why wasn’t it?

18 Bill Talking About Jessica When She Is Considered Missing

via Fanpop

Bill is Jessica’s maker, so he considers her a daughter at this point. So in an early episode of season 2, when he’s shopping for “appropriate” clothes for his daughter at a department store, he discloses this to a saleswoman and tells her his daughter's name.

He shouldn't have talked about her to a human.

The saleswoman already knew he was a vampire, so it would be a good assumption that his “daughter” is someone he made into a vampire. With Jessica Hamby being missing for weeks now and being seen on the news, it seems odd that he would reveal that information to a human who could become alarmed.

17 Why Didn’t The Vampires Heal Their Bite Marks?

via Fanpop

Whenever a vampire on the show would seem worried about being found out by the bite marks they leave on a human, it was kind of puzzling. Mainly because if they were at all concerned, why didn’t they just use their own blood to dab on the bite wounds to automatically heal them?

It seems to me that it would be a very easy fix to a problem they had since vampire blood is an instantaneous healing potion of sorts. Surely, it should have been the simple solution.

16 The Vamps Not Capitalizing On V’s Healing Properties

via True Blood Wiki - Fandom

With how often people used V - or vampire blood - as an illegal substance to get into a different state of mind, as well as feel inhumanly strong, you would think word would have gotten around that V has some serious healing properties too that the vampires could have in turn profited off of.

Instead, they would decide to sell the V as a substance rather than selling it to hospitals which is honestly a rather dumb idea since it would have been a larger profit in the latter’s case.

15 There’s No One Advocating For Vampire Rights Left

via True Blood Wiki - Fandom

All throughout the series, there was a definite vampire government that was different from the human government and they advocated for vampire rights when no one else would.

But by the end of the series, pretty much every vampire known in the vampire government had been ended in one way or another. The Authority, the Magister, Nan Flanagan, the Queen of Louisiana, the King of Mississippi, and even Steve Newlin all met their ultimate demise.

There are no vampires left to fight for their rights.

So if no one is left, then wouldn’t it be complete anarchy?

14 Why Was Steve Newlin’s Maker Never Revealed?

via True Blood Wiki - Fandom

Seriously, why did we never learn who made Steve Newlin into a vampire? All we were ever made privy to was the fact that it was a female vampire who turned him and that he didn’t recognize who she was.

So, that doesn’t exactly narrow the options down too much. Plus, it was supposed to be a form of punishment, yet it wasn’t revealed if it was punishment for Steve due to all of his anti-vampire antics before. Or if it was for a vampire, much like they did with Bill in season one with Jessica. It’s all very confusing.

13 Why Didn’t Jason Have Faery Abilities Like Sookie?

via Pinterest

It was always confusing when it came to the faery bloodline in the Stackhouse family. According to their faerie grandfather, Niall, the fae ran in Sookie’s blood, not Jason’s. But yet sometimes he would show signs of having certain fae-like powers, including having visions of his parents and being able to take part in a faery energy circle.

But yet he was able to be glamoured by vampires and have his mind controlled by Maryann. So is he part-fae or not?

12 Tara’s Devotion To Eggs

via Pinterest

There was no doubt in Tara’s mind in season 2 that she loved Eggs, and no matter what, she had to save him from Maryann.

But what was truly odd about it was Tara fell in love with Eggs in a matter of a few weeks, and even chose to emotionally manipulate her mother and have her mom turn a gun on Sookie - her best friend - and Lafayette, her cousin.

She betrayed her friends' trust.

Why would she choose Eggs’ wellbeing over two people who have meant the world to her all of her life?

11 Weird Timing

via Neon Tommy

One of the most bizarre things about how True Blood was formulated was the timing during the episodes. It would seem like whatever part of the day had to be the focus of the episode, the other part of the day would be completely ignored.

For instance, if Sookie had to wait around for Vampire Bill to wake up and come to see her, she would just sit around for hours on end instead of enjoying her life in a different way.

And vice versa as well. It was all very confusing.

10 No Repercussions When Turning Vampires

via True Blood-Online.com

There was never much said about when a vampire turns a human into one of them unwillingly and what, if any, repercussions there would be. Sure, it didn’t happen all of the time on True Blood, but when it did happen, there was never even a thought expressed that there might be some trouble the vamp could get in for turning someone else into a vampire without their consent.

So why was no one concerned?

You would think that the family of the victim, like in the case of Jessica, would be worried about what happened to their family member.

9 What Is With The Vampire Turning Process?

via ew.com

It’s pretty standard procedure with the vampire folklore to have to exchange blood between the current vampire and who they are turning from human into a vamp. So in True Blood, they do the same thing where the vampire pretty much sucks the human dry of blood, then gives them some of their own blood.

But then they added that they have to be buried together overnight for the full turning to occur. Why is that? It’s never properly explained why they do that and whether it’s necessary or just merely a tradition. Seems a little creepy if you ask me.

8 Why Were The Werewolves Underwhelming?

via True Blood Wiki -Fandom

Werewolves are supposed to be aggressive, impulsive creatures who can hold their own in a fight against pretty much anyone, including vampires.

But when we see them on the show, almost every time there is a fight scene, they are able to be taken down in one way or another. It’s typically in a very anticlimactic way, too. Even Sookie was able to fend off vamps time and time again with her Fae abilities.

Werewolves are supposed to be incredibly strong creatures.

So why are these Weres beyond underwhelming in their own abilities? And why are they such terrible fighters?

7 Sam’s Dog-Like Abilities

via Bustle

We all know that since Sam Merlotte is a Shapeshifter, that he has a certain preference when he shifts, and that is turning into a dog.

But he can turn into practically anything, even another human if necessary, so why does it seem his abilities when he’s not shifting all have to do with dog-like heightened senses?

He has a serious heightened sense of smell, which would only be explained by his ability to shift into a dog. But why is that the only ability he gets when he has been able to turn into many different living things?

6 How Does Merlotte’s Bar And Grill Stay In Business?

via Pinterest

There are a lot of issues surrounding this for me. For one, the waitresses have been picked off one by one starting in the first season, leaving a very small wait staff for the restaurant/bar. Plus, Sam is not always the kindest to his employees, and most of them only show up when they feel like it.

And there has also been a lot of terrible things to happen there. So why do people still come there frequently to eat, drink, and be merry?
