The best way to gauge the degree of a fandom craze is by visiting places where you are bound to find these crazy fans. Facebook and Twitter might be among the most used forms of social media but they are far from the most clustered when it comes to conveying fan interest. Picture-based websites and applications such as Pinterest and Instagram stand out with thousands of posts dedicated to fandoms. These applications, while having their own memes and posts, borrow heavily from Tumblr.

Tumblr is the haven for people looking to amp up their fandom craze. It is one of the locations from where the concept of headcanon came about. Using pictures or stills from movies, fans interpret scenes according to what would interest them the most. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has stretched out to as many as 20 films by this year and thus has the most to offer for Tumblr users. The most favored superheroes on the site are Captain America, Iron Man, The Winter Soldier, Thor, and Loki. These characters might as well have separate websites dedicated to them considering how thousands of posts dissect scenes involving them.

For the most part, these are hilarious, but you will most certainly come upon posts that offer a different point of view that would not have been apparent when watching the movie.

28 Caught In The Trap

via tumblr.com

If one were to tell people a little over a decade ago that there would be a time when people would willingly sit through several minutes of credits just to see a few seconds worth of footage then the people of the past would have called us crazy. Starting from Iron Man, where Nick Fury first met Tony Stark and informed him there were other superpowered beings out there, Marvel has added end credit scenes for all the MCU movies.

The flip side is no one has any problem with sitting through the long credit sequences.

The films always end with a clip – or clips as generally the MCU movies now have multiple after credit scenes – that sets up the next movie in line. Captain America’s cameo at the end of Ant-Man had nothing to do with the movie itself but foreshadowed the Sokovia Accords and Ant-Man’s ultimate involvement in the Civil War story. This Tumblr user has a good point by making us notice just how whipped we are by Marvel. Despite the end credit scenes always leaking on Youtube the day the film comes out we still prefer to sit through the cast and crew member names to get our end credits fix.

27 Might Want To Check The Other Hand

via tumblr.com

The Tumblr fanbase is not a fan of Odin. Their favorite boy is the God of Mischief Loki. It appears as if more than half of the Tumblr MCU fans consist of Loki fangirls. And as Odin has a sketchy history with his adoptive son the fangirls are very quick to point out any shortcomings from the now deceased All Father. In order to get back at Odin for putting Loki through personal trauma there are many posts that poke fun at Odin’s expense. This one doesn’t seem to be one related to Loki but more of a lighthearted jab at Odin.

In what seems to be part of filming footage rather than a scene from one of the Thor movies we see Odin wearing a glove on his right hand but leaving his left bare. As his right eye bears an eye-patch, to cover up the gash he suffered while battling the Frost Giants millennia ago – incidentally also where he found and adopted Loki – the post becomes hilarious because it does appear as if Odin is completely unaware his right hand has a glove on it. There’s also a popular Tumblr post which argues Loki always stood on Odin’s eye-patch side to illustrate how Odin tended to overlook his youngest son.

26 That's Who He Is

via instagram.com

It’s a shame Obadiah and Tony ended up as enemies. Obadiah had great potential to be a recurring figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was played perfectly by Oscar winner Jeff Bridges, setting a benchmark for MCU villains that has only been equaled or surpassed by a few such as Loki or Erik Killmonger. What worked about Obadiah and Tony’s relationship was their undeniable chemistry. Just one re-watch of the scene where Obadiah pries the pizza box away from Tony only to allow him a couple of pieces shows the familial relationship they once had.

He was also one of the few people Tony could be relaxed around. Here this post points out why they made for a lovable duo. Within a span of just four frames Tony showcases just about his entire personality. He loves to play coy when he has an idea and his constant jokes are a shield he draws between himself and the person in front of him, although when confronted by someone he is comfortable around his jokes give away some truth. In this scene Tony admits his flaw of being uncooperative with people. This was pretty much all he was willing to give away as the next moment he was back to his normal practice of putting the shields up on his vulnerability.

25 True To Their Personalities

via tumblr.com

Although the actors from the movies might convince you to think they really might have similar personalities as the characters they portray, that is usually hardly the case. Anyone who has seen interviews of Chris Evans will know how much of a goof he in real life. He is by no means a straight laced good boy like Captain America either and is notorious for being one of the mischievous ones on set.

This Tumblr post gives an accurate description of how the actors behaved in press junkets.

These junkets can be long and arduous tasks. For a film like The Avengers the work is tenfold than any other form of media. In order to make these interviews fun as opposed to repetitive we can see the actors acting loony to amuse themselves. One of the more popular videos has to be where Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans act like absolute fools , laughing at every turn and making funny noises at the end of which the interviewer had hardly gotten any answers. Likewise Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo, while being as close as Bruce Banner and Tony Stark, more often act like naughty children.

24 Oh The Irony!

via pinterest.com

Tumblr is also a great place to find some funny wordplay going on. The above post is a good example of this practice. In Iron Man Tony Stark found himself at the worst possible situation where he was kidnapped after having been attacked a weapon his own company developed. This ultimately provided him with motive to become Iron Man. The first film, not only in the Iron Man series but the MCU as a whole, is considered to be the best offering from Marvel, although Black Panther finally overtook its Rotten Tomatoes score to sit at 96% as compared to Iron Man’s 94%.

Although Tony certainly was “Irony Man” in this instance where his own creation almost proved to be his undoing , it should be noted that had this event not taken place none of the happenings of the future would have been possible. Nick Fury was motivated to go through with the Avengers initiative due to Iron Man’s antics and after S.H.I.E.L.D. collapsed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier it was Tony who funded the Avengers. Had he not been attacked in Afghanistan none of this would have come to pass, and Thanos would not have had someone put up a respectable fight in Avengers: Infinity War on Titian.

23 Get Some Perspective, Storm

via tumblr.com

The X-Men film series’ main focus has always been the theme of acceptance. From X-Men (2000) all the way to Logan the characters have struggled to be accepted in to society. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are the only films to defy this theme as they feature the titular hero engaging in all kinds of mutant shenanigans. X-Men: The Last Stand, while being considered to be one of the lower entries in quality in the series, had a valid argument that mutants should be able to opt for a cure. And yet the heroes considered the cure to be something inhumane. The reality of their situation should be that mutation isn’t equal in value to everyone.

As this post points out, Storm has no reason to believe there’s anything wrong with her when her powers are manipulating the weather. While she can be one of the most formidable heroes from the group she can still keep her powers in check without harming people around her. Poor Rogue, though, has just about the worst ‘powers’ anyone could have. Considering that she can literally end a person’s life just by touching them means she has to live as an outcast her whole life. Even in Professor X’s school for mutants she can’t really fit in as her touch only makes her absorb the other mutant kids’ powers.

22 That's How Real Life Works

via tumblr.com

Who would have thought a cinematic universe where the most ridiculous things imaginable can take place would show something reminiscent of real life? The Marvel Cinematic Universe features a guy wearing a suit that can make him so miniscule that he goes into another dimension, and yet it is this very person who gives us a nice life lesson as well. Ant-Man portrays an accurate depiction of a former convict having difficulty reintegrating himself into society. Scott Lang doesn’t men any harm and only wants to provide for his daughter but with his sketchy past he can’t land a well paying job, this leads him into returning to a life of crime.

In real life you will find situations to be similar wherein a former convict will without doubt be ostracized by others for his previous actions. It doesn’t matter if the person has masters degree in electrical engineering because in the end he will only manage a job at a place like Baskin Robbins. Still, it could be worse, working at Baskin Robbins isn’t all that bad. But this post correctly conveys the naive thinking one has when they think they will be all right only to be confronted by life’s realities.

21 Good Guy Steve

via pinterest.com

In the comics Captain America has been shown to be worthy of picking up Mjolnir and gaining access to the power of Thor. Among all the Avengers he can be seen as the only one with solid justification to be proven worthy. Being worthy doesn’t only mean being powerful, it also means being selfless when needed and putting one’s ego aside for the benefit of others. Thor has displayed such qualities that Odin saw necessary for a person for Mjolnir to grant access to them. In Avengers: Age of Ultron Thor dared his friends to try and lift the hammer with only Steve Rogers coming close.

But there’s no such thing as being almost worthy.

You are either worthy or you are not. And yet Steve came close to displacing Mjolnir from where it stood. Thor’s smirk faded away when he saw what was about to unfold. It has been argued, such as in this Tumblr post, that Steve only pretended to be unable to lift Mjolnir to spare Thor any feelings of embarrassment. Steve is the personification of a good guy and being put in a position that would make Thor look inferior is one where Steve would do his best to avoid that from happening.

20 Not A Great Plan

via pinterest.com

No matter how powerful his healing factor is the rule should be very simple when flying off to fight Magneto: Do not take Wolverine along. Not only does Logan lack strategy – being prone to jump headfirst into a fight without a plan – he is the most powerful weapon in Magneto’s arsenal. Logan is made entirely of metal which makes him Magneto’s play toy. In every fight we have seen between the two, Wolverine has been curbstomped by Magneto. It doesn’t even matter if Wolverine is made of adamantium or not as in X-Men: Days of Future Past he again lost handily to Magneto and was flung away without difficulty.

Then there’s the fact that Professor X uses a wheelchair to move around. Wheelchairs are made of metal, the very substance Magneto has total control over. It is only out of respect for their friendship that Magneto doesn’t crush the wheelchair, and Professor X, in an instant. Finally, there’s the airship the X-Men used to transport themselves to the battle area. Magneto should flick them all to their ends by simply looking at the approaching airship. All in all, this just makes Magneto look like a stand up guy who has willingly never caused the X-Men any harm despite having the instant means to do so.

19 The Old Switcheroo

via pinterest.com

Thor and Loki may have had a tumultuous at best relationship but their actors are firm friends. The above picture isn’t fabricated, the actors really did show up n two separate occasions wearing what seem to be each other’s clothes. The press junket was for Thor: The Dark World which was the third collaboration between Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth following Thor and The Avengers. By this point they had become very likeminded, and judging by these pictures they seemed to have become two peas in a pod. What’s more appropriate is that in Thor: The Dark World Loki and Thor had a different dynamic compared to their previous outings. This time round they displayed more of the brotherly mannerisms between each other.

In a strange twist they may have become very much in sync. It is uncanny how they have literally worn the same type of shirts on two different occasions with the only difference being the addition of a tie. This Tumblr user furthered the idea that the actors knew about this coincidence all along by suggesting that one of them simply told the other to wear ties the next time and no one would notice.

18 That's Not A Hydra

via tumblr.com

HYDRA first became known in Captain America: The First Avengers although the extent of their involvement in S.H.I.E.L.D. matters was not known until Captain America: The Winter Soldier where the organization was revealed to have been operating from within S.H.I.E.L.D. the whole time. Long-term characters like Jasper Sitwell and Senator Stern were shown to have been HYDRA agents all this time. HYDRA’s involvement in the MCU story lasted a very long time with it kickstarting Avengers: Age of Ultron, inadvertently creating Ultron in the process, and fallout from its practices lasting till Captain America: Civil War. The organization was run by geniuses who had access to a code that foresaw future threats like Doctor Strange years before he gained his powers.

But this Tumblr post exposes HYDRA in a way not even Captain America did. HYDRA’s logo is meant to depict an actual Hydra, one of the creatures from Greek mythology belonging to Poseidon, which grew more heads after the previous one had been cut off. HYDRA’s logo was meant to convey its reach into every aspect of society with nothing out of their control. Except what they were going for was an Octopus. If they wanted to be a Hydra then they should have gone with multiple heads, not tentacles.

17 Men In Pajamas Save The World

via tumblr.com

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has attracted us to its films to this regard that fans have no care for anything but watching the movie. Without special effects these films would be very lame. Just watch any behind the scenes footage and you’ll know how slow it is to film these movies. Not to mention that a majority of the filming occurs with Green screen in the background. The action is, for the most part, completely rendered by graphic designers. There are several pictures that show the actors looking incredibly sill in their actual costumes as opposed to how we’ve become accustomed to seeing them in the movies.

Still, diehard fans would watch an MCU film without these special effects.

Case in point is this post where users outright state they would love to watch such a movie. The Iron Man and War Machine suits require Robert Downey and Don Cheadle to wear the top portion of their respective helmets with the rest comprising of motion capture dots that map their movements, over which the suit is then placed using computer generated imagery. What we have learned here, though, is that all that CGI might not even be required now as Marvel has caught fan interest to such a degree that they would watch grown men in their pajamas duke it out.

16 Yo Dawg! Heard You Like Iron Men Suits

via tumblr.com

There was a popular meme with the rapper Xzibit where he would make outrageous claims of fixing someone’s possessions by piling it on to ridiculous amounts. It was inspired by the popular show Pimp My Ride where random people would have their cars upgraded, but Xzibit would go over the top by adding multiple add ons of the same stuff. That logic is applied here by this Tumblr user. In Avengers: Age of Ultron we saw the Hulbuster armor take on the Hulk and manage to defeat the giant monster. Iron Man couldn’t have taken out the Hulk with just any conventional suit and this one required input from Bruce Banner himself if it was to lock horns with his dangerous alter ego.

It did take things a tad over the top in that the Hulkbuster was Tony wearing an armor suit inside another armor suit. Now if Captain America were to bring up the argument from The Avengers where he asked Tony who he was if his suit was taken away, Stark could simply claim to be in a slightly smaller suit of armor. The Hulkbuster returned in Avengers: Infinity War with Banner not wearing an additional suit to access it.

15 While You Were Sleeping

via tumblr.com

Chris Evans is a man blessed with good looks. You can’t find any movie where he doesn’t look fetching. Even in movies like The Losers and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World where he is meant to look strange he can’t help but appear handsome. With Captain America, he had the good looking department on his side as Steve Rogers was meant to look as ‘Perfect’ as possible. The special effects department did a wonderful job at making Evans look tiny and inferior in size in Captain America: The First Avenger when he was meant to appear that way. Once the serum was placed within Rogers he looked just as buff as Chris Evans was in real life.

When Captain America woke up in the future after almost seventy years frozen in ice he hadn’t aged a day since the 40s. Even his hair was carefully combed and stylized. Coma patients don’t actually look all prim and proper as Steve did but this Tumblr post has a good answer for that. Phil Coulson was a huge fan of Captain America as shown in The Avengers and there is always the likelihood that he had visited Steve in the hospital and taken time to care for his looks as well.

14 Who Needs A Doctor When You Have The Avengers?

via pinterest.com

There are many fan groups for pairings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and these don’t have to be couples either. The largest fanbases are for those characters who have the least chances of ever becoming romantically involved but such is the case. Among the most popular are Steve Rogers with Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers with Tony Stark, and Thor with Loki. Arguably, the latter one is the most favoured among Tumblr users.

Thor and Loki’s turbulent history makes them a Tumblr user’s dream.

There can be hundreds of interpretations to each scene they share. For instance, Thor’s story of how Loki had a habit of stabbing him for no apparent reason when they were children alone has hundreds of Tumblr posts dedicated to it. Then there’s Chirs Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston’s friendship which only makes these fans fawn even more. The Avengers as a whole offer a wide variety of tropes related to friendship, trust and companionship, which is why this person feels watching the Avengers movies is like therapy to them. It might just be therapeutic, too, as the relationship between Thor and Loki would tell brothers how not to behave considering their history of attempting end each other.

13 Love Behind The Hate

via tumblr.com

Moving on from Thor and Loki we switch to another mentioned pairing that also receives a whole lot of attention. Unlike Loki and Thor, Steve and Tony didn’t have the best of relationships earlier on in the friendship. They were more like associates stuck in a team neither had a say in deciding its members. In The Avengers they were at each other’s throats in the helicarrier scene with the Mind Stone sceptre looming in the background, no doubt playing with their already heightened emotions. Tony’s attitude did not rub off on Steve and the two engaged each other in a stare down where Tony made his famous “Genius, Billionaire, Philanthropist” remark.

This picture, as mentioned by the Tumblr users, is the most accurate depiction of their relationship. Tony means no ill will toward Steve but his lack of responsibility tends to get to Steve’s nerves. On the other side is Steve who puts up with Tony’s erratic behaviour – purely because of business reasons at first – because he can’t help but be his friend. Unfortunately their blossoming friendship after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron was shattered, thanks to Zemo’s machinations in Captain America: Civil War, but like everyone else we are hoping these two become best friends once again in Avengers 4.

12 The Child In All Of Us

via pinterest.com

Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. The signs have been there for almost two decades. Ryan was most taken by the character since he was a child and since the end of the 90s had been working up to playing the character. In the early 2000s this dream was close to becoming a reality too, something even the comic writers of Deadpool may have acknowledged as a mid 2000s comic book had the Merc with Mouth liken himself to Ryan Reynolds before Ryan had been cast in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Speaking of which, Ryan saw his first appearance as Wade Wilson come about in that movie where he retained Wade’s childish personality and his penchant for fast talking. Unfortunately that’s where Deadpool’s personality ended and the Weapon XI that we saw was something no one wanted.

Cue in 2016 and Deadpool was released to unanimously positive reviews. By this point test footage of Ryan Reynolds’ original vision for the character had been leaked on the internet and now with Deadpool 2 Ryan has established the character as his own. The secret to his success might seem tenacity but it might just be him embracing his younger side. Ryan has always been larger than life in his interviews and it is clear it is not a front for the cameras but someone he really is.

11 I Can And I Will

via instagram.com

Avengers: Infinity War silenced all the criticisms that Marvel was too scared to pull the trigger on its heroes. While DC was lauded for its willingness to let its main heroes like Superman bite the dust, Marvel had hardly offed a fan favourite. Now with Infinity War’s ending still fresh in our minds we know no one was ever safe. The film started out with everyone’s favourite Loki being choked to his demise by Thanos along with half of the Asgardians who had just escaped a doomed fate in Thor: Ragnarok. As if that wasn’t enough we saw Guardians of the Galaxy lose Gamora as Thanos sacrificed his own daughter to acquire the Soul stone. Vision followed thereafter before just about everyone was snapped away in the wind comprising of Spider-Man, Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Mantis, Star-Lord, Drax, Falcon and Groot, Doctor Strange, among many others.

Marvel doesn’t really want to do away with these characters, though, because these are some of the most beloved ones out there. They will probably all be resurrected in Avengers 4 as we know Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Spider-Man Homecoming 2, Black Panther 2 and Doctor Strange 2 are all in the pipeline for future releases. But as of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel has disposed of all of them.

10 The Bumbling Protagonist

via pinterest.com

The Peter Parker we have seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is yet another interpretation of the character. Since 2002 this has been the third Spider-Man on film. The Tobey Maguire Peter Parker was an extreme doormat who let everyone walk over him. He wasn’t so much of a bumbling person as much as softspoken, although he did have his moments of snark such as when he was in the cage fight in Spider-Man. The Andrew Garfield Peter Parker was the most confident of the bunch who had the most quips out any iteration of the character, he was a fast talker, fully confident in his abilities.

The latest Tom Holland version is the most innocent of the three Peter Parkers.

He is much younger than the previous two and while he has the similar quipping tendencies as Andrew Garfield’s Parker he is less inclined to go for the danger moves. This Peter can also get certain situations to his head, leading him to babble on about stuff that he shouldn’t be confessing. This Tumblr post imagines him in a scenario where Black Widow and Iron Man rescue him and in the ensuing confusion Peter reveals his secret identity. It’s very easy to see this happening in the MCU and with Avengers 4 probably resurrecting Spidey we could see this exchange with Black Widow still happen.

9 Hawkeye, Our Female Role Model

via tumblr.com

Tumblr users tend to get overexcited by the actions of one of the actors from the favourite fandoms. Hawkeye was sorely missed in Avengers: Infinity War, not only because he was a great blend between serious and comedy, but because he was one of the founding members of the Avengers. His actor Jeremy Renner is even funnier than Hawkeye. His interviews are a blast to watch as he pokes fun at his co-stars. Chris Evans seems to laugh the hardest at Jeremy’s jokes and their videos together are a good way to wipe away any case of the blues you might be feeling.

In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, Jeremy revealed a lesser known fact that he had once been a makeup artist. Going full on sassy to prove his point, Jeremy proceeded to give tips to women over how makeup should be done the right way. Now remember this is the same guy who plays an archer that can’t miss in The Avengers. The fandom went crazy over knowledge of this Jeremy Renner factoid and instantly likened him to be a strong, independent woman. We don’t know how Hawkeye would respond to these posts but Jeremy would probably be all for them.
