Golf is the name of the game here and instead of clubs, you’ve got cars and the balls are gigantic. Getting yours to the end before anyone else is harder than it sounds, but to make those first steps into the driving seat a little smoother, here’s a helpful guide to the multiplayer in Turbo Golf Racing.

How Does Multiplayer Work?

Turbo Golf Racing: A Race With Other Cars And Golf Balls

At the moment there’s only one multiplayer mode and it’s your standard free for all mini-golf affair. Up to eight players compete and you all have the task of being the first one to sink their ball in the hole at the end of a winding course filled with twists, turns, and all sorts of hazards.

The giant golf balls of other players can’t be interfered with as you’ll just harmlessly pass through them. But, there are power-ups aplenty like homing missiles that can be used to delay other racers or refills for your boost to help you blast past your competitors. Matches come in sets of three and you’re awarded points for your position in the race with the winner being announced at the end.

The developers have said they’re interested in adding more modes as time goes on. So expect an update when that occurs.

How To Create Private Lobbies

Turbo Golf Racing: The Private Lobby Menu Screen

Matches with randoms are pretty fast and plentiful, with most tournaments taking a handful of minutes at most. So you can get a nice turn and burn on XP and car golf anarchy relatively quickly.

Since the maximum capacity for multiplayer is eight, it’s perfect for bringing in a big group of friends for a game night. To get a private lobby with your pals going, just use Create Party in the main menu and after a few seconds it will make a private group. Then you just have to invite your pals in. It’s as easy as that, then you just start a match and the game will pick a random set of levels for you to blow through.

Car Customisation

Turbo Golf Racing: Customisation Options For The Car

There are a lot of customization options available for you right off the bat. Although you can’t change anything mechanically. But our cosmetic options are vast, varied, and very detailed enough that you can pour your own personality onto your car of choice.

Cosmetics can be unlocked either by leveling up or by using Gears and Trophies in the in-game shop. There are no microtransactions, so everything can be earned purely through gameplay alone. Plus, you can change everything from the spoiler, the tires, bumpers, the ball, and beyond. With plans for more cosmetics in the future, there are plenty of ways to personalize your car.

Multiplayer Tips

Turbo Golf Racing: The Starting Position And Other Racers

The multiplayer in Turbo Golf Racing is pretty straightforward. You’ve only got one goal, get the ball to the hole, and don’t be last. It’s a pretty basic tip that can get you pretty far comfortably, but if you want to get that winning edge over the competition it’s worth digging under the hood a little.

There are a couple of tips that have been picked up by the Community so far that are worth knowing that will help you go from last place and slow, to out and front like a pro. So here are a couple of multiplayer tips for Turbo Golf Racing.

Aim For Boost Rings

Turbo Golf Racing: Hitting The Ball Through A Boost Ring

As you’re zipping around the course at top speed you’ll sometimes see large floating rings. Smacking your ball through these will send it soaring closer to the hole. Ideally, you should aim for these as often as you can.

Why that’s a big advantage is that sometimes it clears large obstacles, big sections of the track and can sometimes either pot the ball for you or line it up for the perfect shot. Other players can also use them, at which point they’ll disappear, but they’ll reset after a few seconds. They also reorient your ball in the right direction, so as long as you slice it into the ring, no matter the angle, you’ll be fine.

Glide Whenever You Can

Turbo Golf Racing: The Car Gliding Over The Track

Gliding is a feature that’s often overlooked as there’s so much going on at any given time it’s easy to forget you have the ability. But using this soaring move can be incredibly beneficial.

For example, it helps you cover large tracks of the map that may be covered in bunkers. Or fly over large gaps to gain a massive lead over the other racers. It also regenerates a small portion of your boost, so you can get a speedy little start when your wheels finally touch back down.

Look For Shortcuts

Turbo Golf Racing: Shortcuts On The Map Flyover

Though they aren’t hidden routes like you find in Mario Kart, the shortcuts here are more whatever corners and segments of the track you can cut with a lucky shot. Just like real mini-golf, with a good smack at the right angle you can get over a lot of obstacles.

For example, certain maps have gaps that you can get the ball over easily if you punt it. Timed right it can let you gain a large lead, or shave off crucial seconds if you’re gunning for the scoreboard in the Time Trial Mode. So keep an eye out for the perfect line as you blast around the maps in Turbo Golf Racing.

The Cure For Beeping

Turbo Golf Racing: Missile Warning Indicator

If at any point you start to hear a very loud beeping noise as you’re racing around, then expect an explosive surprise in a few seconds. This ominous noise is the calling card of the missile power-up and it’s a merciless nightmare that will stun your car for a few seconds. Just enough time for someone to go zipping past, stealing your spot in the race.

However, there are a few tricks you can pull to take the wind out of your new beeping friend's sails. For starters, missiles can’t handle elevation or tight turns well. So if the map has tiers, get high or low as quickly as you can. If someone is directly behind you as they lock on, handbrake turn or slam the brakes on. The missile's pathing should get confused and send it off on a useless straight line. Finally, the suction tunnels also negate the missiles as it doesn’t slow you down. So if you’ve got a rocket on your tail, move at top speed towards one as quick as you can.

The Boost Start

Turbo Golf Racing: Boost Start Trick

It’s not something the game will tell you, but there is a quick boost start you can use to get a speedy little advantage over the other racers. Similar to other racing games, it requires doing a particular set of inputs as the countdown timer is running down at the beginning of a race.

To get the boost start to trigger takes only three steps. First, hold down the accelerator, then tap the boost button as the countdown slowly ticks away. Finally, as it hits GO!, hold the boost button down. It should rocket you out much quicker for a brief few seconds from a standing start than activating it normally would.

Play With Power Cores

Turbo Golf Racing: An Example Of Unlockable Power Cores

Aside from power-ups and shortcuts, the other feature you should invest some time in researching is the Power Cores. These helpful buffs provide active and passive benefits that can make your rush to be first to the hole a little easier.

For example, the Magnet brings your ball closer to the car whilst Double Dash lets you do a double air dash. Certain buffs also work better in tandem with others so figuring out the right synergy that works the best for you can help. As a starter, a good combo to try for first-timers is the Magnet and Big Ball which makes the ball massive and easier to control. This should see you through for a while, but it’s worth experimenting to cater to your particular play style.
