Twitch is dropping its minimum threshold for streamers to receive a payout. Currently set at $100, Twitch plans to drop that value to $50.

Starting July 15, Twitch will begin a phased rollout of the new minimum payout threshold. Argentina, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and Taiwan will be the first countries to receive the new $50 payout threshold, with more countries added every month through to November. Twitch expects this change will provide “more regular payouts” to over 70,000 content creators once implemented.

"We understand how important it is for you to quickly access the money you earn from streaming. This lower $50 threshold is one important step towards creating a faster, easier payout experience," wrote Twitch in its announcement. "One day, we’d love for you to wrap up your stream and already have the money you earned from that stream in your wallet. As we aim for lower payout thresholds, we’re focusing on building a trustworthy, accurate, and globally accessible experience for everybody."

Twitch streamers will be notified when their country becomes part of the rollout. Payments will still be available by ACH/direct deposit, eCheck/local bank, PayPal, and check. Due to transfer fees, wire transfers will still have a $100 minimum payout threshold. Users can also continue to withhold their payments until a later date if they so choose.

The streaming giant is becoming increasingly concerned with how it pays content creators. Earlier this year, Twitch confirmed it was considering changes to its revenue sharing system for paid subscriptions. Currently, Twitch offers a 70/30 split for content creators, but that might drop to 50/50 in the near future. Twitch is also considering ad revenue sharing as opposed to the flat rate for ads that it currently offers.

The Elder Scrolls Online has partnered with Twitch streamers for the Give A Sweetroll charity drive running until July 17. Proceeds are given to the No Kid Hungry charity, which aims to stop childhood hunger in the United States.
