Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Recap: Xcudi And Gigz Head To TwitchCon

On Sept. 11, 20 three-person teams comprised of Twitch rising stars entered the Apex Arena in a battle royale showdown. In the end, only one trio could reign supreme.

The fight wasn't easy as teams led by players such as TSM_Viss and GuhRL put excellent showings over eight games. However, consistently high placements — including two wins — solidified Team Xcudi's top slot.

As the winning team, Xcudi and his teammates are guaranteed a spot in the TwitchCon 2019 Twitch Rivals Apex Legends tournament. Second place went to Team Gigz, which can also now claim a spot at the TwitchCon competition. That event has $500,000 on the line.

With top competitive players in Poland for this weekend's Apex Legends Preseason Invitational, this tournament primarily featured popular Twitch content creators.

Focused players used team play and tactical strategy to earn top honors. In one dramatic moment, Xcudi threw an arc star at an opponent before using one of Wraith's portals to teleport through a high-damage ring for a win.

Between placement earnings and additional payouts for kills, Xcudi's team, which included fellow streamers Nafengg and ItsCornpops, will take home $4,589.

The competition awarded cash payouts per placement in each game, with a top prize of $625 for each win. Additionally, players could earn additional compensation by eliminating opponents, with up to $625 for the team with the most kills.

Cash prizes aside, the top two teams also earned an invitation to TwitchCon to participate in its forthcoming Apex Legends tournament. That event will take place on Sept. 29.

Gigz's squad managed to secure second place, though not without some drama. In the eighth game, Gigz's teammates faced early eliminations, leaving Gigz as their sole hope. Then, in a gut-wrenching moment, Gigz timed out of the game for inactivity after remaining stationary too long while hiding.

Luckily, the team was already high enough on the leaderboards that they still managed to solidify the TwitchCon invitation. They also earned $4,489 throughout the course of the event.

For many viewers, rising streamer iiTzTimmy was the day's true MVP. With a series of perfectly-timed meme-like overlays, he caught spectators by surprise when a failed series of sniper shots resulted in a computer-punching scene. It was quickly followed by what appeared to be a PC crash.

In reality, the player was running a customized transition, which led to a laugh-out-loud moment.

iiTzTimmy played as part of FemStephs's team.

The Apex Legends Preseason Invitational in Poland starts on Sept. 13. Finals will take place on Sept. 15 and will air at 11 a.m. EDT/8 a.m. PDT on Twitch, Mixer, YouTube and Facebook.

Twitch Rivals will then host its TwitchCon Apex Legends tournament the following weekend. TwitchCon runs from Sept. 27 to 29.
