Needless to say, getting the most out of a TwitchCon ticket is always important – learning about the many local attractions is a must to ensure a well-rounded experience.
Most attendees are flying in from all parts of the world and are unfamiliar with the area. If you are traveling to San Diego for TwitchCon 2019 – fear not! The following is a list of great local bars that are perfect spots to unwind after a long day at the convention.
Striders
If close proximity to the San Diego Convention Center is a priority, make sure to check out Striders. Located just across the street from the center, Striders is a multi-level bar with an interesting circular design. The establishment serves as the base for the "Harbor Club," a series of luxury high-rise condos. They house their very own "Striders Pale Ale" alongside the 23 other options they keep on tap. If beating the night crowd is your thing, make sure you check out happy hour on Friday from 3 to 6pm for some discounts. Their website also boasts a number of specials, even one just for TwitchCon attendees, so make sure to stop by and take advantage of them!
The Whiskey House
Whiskey enthusiasts should certainly check out this aptly-named cocktail bar. Unlike many bars, The Whiskey House's happy hour extends through the weekend – 4 to 7pm every day of the convention. According to their website, they are the "Guinness book of world records holder for most whiskey in the world." If their in-house menu is anywhere close to the online selection, then expect a jaw-dropping amount of drink options from this establishment, well-within walking distance from the San Diego Convention Center.
Float Rooftop Lounge
For those seeking open air over indoor crowds, the Float Rooftop Lounge is the place to explore. The bar is just a short walk from the convention center and features plenty of space and fire pits. Located on top of San Diego's Hard Rock Hotel, Float Rooftop Lounge might be the best option for photo ops with its panoramic views over the city. Alternatively, check out Altitude Sky Lounge, another great option if rooftop bars with great views are the goal.
Jolt'n Joe's Gaslamp
Simple and fun describes the atmosphere of Jolt'n Joe's Gaslamp. Nothing too fancy, this bar is a perfect option for those who are looking for something plain yet just as effective in utility. Callaway Vineyard & Winery
Not everyone visiting TwitchCon 2019 is going to be fond of beer and cocktails, but some may be interested in wine. Luckily, California is known for its vineyards, and Callaway Vineyard & Winery has a tasting room that is located very close to the San Diego Convention Center. Wine-loving visitors to the area would definitely do well to give some of the local wines a taste – Callaway offers multiple exclusive wines that are only available at their physical locations! It is open 7 days a week, closing at 10pm on Friday/Saturday, and at 9pm on Sunday.
Polite Provisions
Many attendees will be looking for something more than just convenient locations and quick alcohol. Polite Provisions is a great local bar to pay a visit to in order to avoid the touristy areas, providing a different look at San Diego's nightlife. Apparently, Polite Provisions is one of San Diego's oldest drink establishments and features brand new selections designed by industry specialist Erick Castro. Located about 9 miles away from the convention center, it will require an Uber ride, but should make for a great option for those looking to dodge the noisy crowds from the conference.
Scavengers Beer Tours
Scavengers Beer Tours is for adventure seekers and beer enthusiasts looking to take their TwitchCon 2019 San Diego trip to the next level. As per our event attractions guide, Scavengers Beer Tours are among the most unique and well-received.
The tour transportation is quite unique – tourists are driven to and from breweries in a 6-wheeled Swiss safari vehicle! A tour ticket will provide not only transportation, but also drinks on the road, beer samples at each of the 2-3 breweries, a Scavengers souvenir tasting glass, and a BBQ meal at the end of it all.
