It's a good year for Far Cry fans. On top of Far Cry 6 hitting stores this October, we've now got not one, but two shows based on the long-running franchise heading over to Netflix - and one of them might not be what you're expecting.

We only have a proper name for one of the shows, and I guarantee you can't guess what it is. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is an anime dripping with 1980s cartoon nostalgia, and is based on the Far Cry 3 expansion, Blood Dragon.

Created by Adi Shankar of Castlevania fame, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix takes place in an alternate reality, seemingly a cyberpunk-esque dystopia, plagued by social issues such as unemployed and civil unrest. Wearing its synthwave aesthetic on its sleeve, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix stars alter egos of series characters. According to a report from Variety, it will run for six episodes.

If this unique premise has grabbed your attention, the reveal came alongside a 10-second sneak peek of what we can expect from the anime.

The second show got much less attention - all we have to go by is a logo, simply revealing the name to be Far Cry. It's likely this will be more lore-friendly, and perhaps a more grounded take on the Far Cry world. This is significantly earlier on in its development, as the creative team is still being assembled.

Both announcements were part of Netflix's Geeked Week showcase. As part of the presentation, we also got a look at a new Castlevania spin-off, and the next season of The Witcher - albeit very briefly.
