Designed with the Goth student in mind, the educational experience will turn these vampire impersonators into masters of the mysterious, dealer of the dreadful, and nerds of the night. In this guide, we’ll get you up to speed on what the Dark Art course is, what you’ll need to run it, and what you can do to get your students graduating with the highest honours.

What Is Dark Art?

Introduced as “A provocative outlet for creative angst”, Dark Art focuses its efforts on the bleak, black, and macabre, so quite understandably, only Goths can enrol in this course. Look out around campus for those dressed in black jackets, trousers, and shoes as they sulk and skulk their way around the halls.

In terms of the basics, you’ll first unlock Dark Arts when you enter Spiffinmore — you’ll also unlock the Wizardy course at the same time. Goths will graduate after two years, and the work it requires means it’s considered a hard course for students by the game. This means your Private Tuition and Pastoral Support care will be under a lot of pressure thanks to the increased demand.

Fortunately, Dark Art is a relatively inexpensive course to run, requiring only a Lecture Theatre, Potions Room, and a Library. However, whilst you’ll build the Library and Lecture Theatre for any other course, the Potions Room is more niche and takes up a hefty 6x6 area at minimum.

Since first-year students only need a Lecture Theatre, you don't need to place a Potions Room just yet, which gives you time to think about where it can go next year.

As mentioned earlier, the course lasts for two years and has an average tuition fee of $7,200. A lucrative prospect given the short course length, but also a risky one, given that the course is considered hard and can only be studied by Goths. Students hoping to graduate in this course will learn:

1st year:

  • Charcoal: Instrument of Darkness (Lecture Theatre)
  • The Shadow of Doubt (Lecture Theatre)
  • Don't be Craven, Paint the Darn Raven (Lecture Theatre)

2nd Year:

  • A Negative Space: Thanks, I Hate It (Potions Room)
  • Black is Still the Old Black (Lecture Theatre)
  • Dark Magic: Could it be Darker? (Potions Room)

When outside of their scheduled lectures, students will continue their studies in the Potions Room and Library. On campus though, you’ll be expected to provide dormitories, food stands or vending machines, toilets, showers, a Student Lounge, and a Staff Room at the very least, allowing all campus attendees to meet their basic needs.

Instead of having specific buildings for sleeping, studying, and eating spread the facilities across the campus. It’s much easier for students and staff to nip away for a quick break rather than having to sprint across the map.

Eventually, you’ll want to start looking into taking on more students and improving their overall grades. You can do this through the course overview menu, where you can upgrade the course at the start of each academic year. A checklist will also let you know what the campus needs before you start another year.

That last part is crucial, because if students can’t properly study their course, they’ll fail their end-of-year exams and have to drop out, or they might just get fed up and leave halfway through their studies.

First-year students will always appear at the start of the academic year — as well as your returning students. This means you’ll have twice as many students in your second year of running the campus compared to your first. Make sure you're ready for the extra demand.

Raising tuition fees lowers the number of students who will attend, meaning it’ll be easier to manage their needs and allow you to better focus on improving their grades. The catch is, you’ll be making less money overall.

Decreasing tuition fees will bring more students and generate more cash overall but be prepared for the extra strain that’ll be put on your campus. We’d recommend keeping the standard admissions rate until a class has graduated, then you can adjust the costs and find what works best for you.

It’s better to have one brilliant course, than three or four barely functioning courses. Understand how to effectively improve the conditions for a small number of students, then gradually build up your prospectus.

As well as the Lecture Theatre lecterns, the Potions Room Magic Cauldron can also be upgraded. First, get a Janitor with the Mechanics training by using the Training Room, or finding someone with the correct training from the Hire Staff tab.

Now, build a Research Room and find a teacher who has Research training; search for the upgrade you want to unlock and then click the upgrade button on the item.

A Magic Cauldron II costs $10,000 to implement and increases learning power in that classroom by 25 percent. While a Magic Cauldron III costs $30,000 but provides a huge 50 percent learning power.

Something core to the Two Point Campus student experience is the assignments. To start one, they’ll require specialist equipment, but once it’s completed, their grade will improve significantly. A student might make a request through your inbox, and since these items tend to cost a fair amount of Kudosh, make sure to have some spare.

Tips For Dark Art

Two Point Campus Goth Recvieving Private Tuition
  • Whilst Goths can be tricky to keep happy, there’s a lot in-game geared towards accommodating them. Specifically, the Horror Film in the Lecture Theatre and Ripped Chords on the Student Union stage are very popular with them.
  • Since they can share the Lecture Theatre and Potions Room with Dark Arts, Wizardry is a great second course to grab, since you’ll only need to build a Spells Room.
  • Use the Personnel Management Tab to figure out who’s failing their course. This is a hard course so at least some students will require extra-curricular help to avoid failing.
  • The 6x6 area of a Potions Room is a lot of indoor space, and because they’re typically square, it makes good placement a real problem. You can always reshape Campus Buildings if you need to find the extra space, but it’s always worth doing a little planning before placing any buildings.
