Don't Build Unnecessary Rooms
While it may be tempting to build the fancy new DNA Lab that you just unlocked through research, you shouldn't. When you don't have any patients coming in with a certain illness, you shouldn't build the room.
You are basically throwing money away because it will cost more for its construction and upkeep than it's going to bring in. The game will tell you when someone comes in with a new disease, and you should wait until this happens to build these specialty rooms.

The explanation on Kudosh is pretty sparse at the beginning of the game, but this is the currency you earn at the hospitals that can be used to unlock new items. You should spend a little bit at each hospital you unlock, but reading the item descriptions can help you decide what to buy.
