Ubisoft is celebrating 20 years of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon with a brand new game announcement later today. The presentation is scheduled to start at 1 PM EST (10 AM BST), which you can watch on Ubisoft’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

As for what this new game is all about, Eurogamer points us towards a recent leak on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit, which has since made its way to ResetEra. Called Ghost Recon Frontline, the game will return to a more linear style of gameplay rather than Breakpoint and Wildland's sprawling open world. It'll be set in modern-day Vietnam and be developed by Ubisoft Paris.

This might be a good change of pace for Ghost Recon. Although fans were utterly taken by Wildlands' gorgeous portrayal of Bolivia, they weren't all that keen on Breakpoint's fictional Auroa Islands. Fans also complained about the lack of content on release--a problem that took Ubisoft most of 2021 to solve.

Returning to a more linear sandbox will free up development resources to spend on filling the smaller spaces with stuff to do rather than spending all their time creating a massive world with nothing in it.

One thing is for sure: we're definitely not looking for another Tom Clancy mobile game.
