Ubisoft won't be holding its usual Ubisoft Forward showcase this June, and instead expects to do it "later this year".

As has been the case for the past few years, it's a bit of a weird time for gaming showcases. With E3 cancelled this year, it now falls upon companies to hold their own showcases or take part in Summer Gaming Fest. Although some showcases have been revealed already, Ubisoft has now confirmed that its usual Ubisoft Forward showcase won't be a part of June's festivities.

Axios reports that a Ubisoft representative has been in contact with the site and informed them that a Ubisoft Forward presentation isn't planned for June, but that it will have something else "later this year".

This is the first we've heard from Ubisoft about a Summer showcase, which is unusual for the studio, as it is usually one of the first to announce its plans. For the comment to come from a representative of the studio and not from an official announcement from Ubisoft itself is strange too, but it could just be that it's not ready to show off what it's got coming in the future just yet.

Interestingly, Ubisoft also isn't a part of the Summer Game Fest lineup. Yesterday, Geoff Keighley revealed 30 of the partners that are involved and Ubisoft isn't listed among them. Although Keighley confirmed that more are going to be revealed in the coming months, it's strange to see Ubisoft missing when it's usually present for all of these events.

Although Ubisoft itself has announced a fair few of its projects, recent leaks have indicated that it's working on quite a lot behind the scenes, including a 2D Prince of Persia game, and at least two different battle royale projects. Combine those with games that seem to be having some development problems, like Skull & Bones and Beyond Good & Evil 2, and it makes more sense why it might be holding off on a showcase for a bit longer.
