Final Update: Police have confirmed that the call that preceded the police action was a hoax.

Update Two: Ubisoft Montreal has Tweeted out a statement this evening of admiration for the courage of its staff and the SPVM for handling the situation promptly and with care. While details are still not clear on what has happened, it seems everyone involved is safe and that's the best possible outcome here. That statement has been linked in the post below.

Update: The latest report from TVA Nouvelles claims that the incident was a false alarm. Employees in the building were not aware of that, so they took precautions by barricading themselves in offices and heading to the roof. As of 4:21 pm EST, the employees on the roof were starting to be evacuated by the police.

According to local news stations in Montreal, Canada, a hostage situation is currently unfolding in the building that houses Ubisoft Montreal on Saint Laurent Boulevard. Police are on the scene but have not been able to verify exactly what is occurring.

A tweet from Eric Pope, senior community developer for HyperScape, states that he was on a call with some employees when they abruptly needed to leave the building. Other tweets from bystanders show similar things from the street level.

According to Montreal police, no threat has been identified at the moment, but they are still evacuating the building. The Montreal Police have urged citizens to stay away from Saint Laurent Boulevard at the moment. Without divulging too many details, it seems to corroborate everything else that is going on.

CBC News periodically updated its followers on Twitter as events were unfolding. Initially, it seemed like the situation was in relation to an armed robbery. Roughly an hour later, the outlet verified that officers had been dispatched and that no one was reported injured.
