Dark Horse Comics and Ubisoft Montréal will release Far Cry: Rite of Passage, a three-issue comic book series that is set to be released in May. The series will expand the universe of Far Cry, an FPS game series that launched in 2004.

The comic book series will follow Antón Castillo, the main antagonist in Far Cry 6, who is voiced by Giancarlo Esposito in the game, in a story than connects to the games in the franchise. The series is written by Bryan Edward Hill (Angel), illustrated by Geraldo Borges (Angel), colored by Micheal Atiyeh (Halo: Escalation), and lettered by Comicraft (God of War), while the covers are illustrated by Matt Taylor.

Dark Horse's description reads, "Bringing in fan-favorite villains, Far Cry: Rite of Passage is a gritty tale of the intricate road that leads to the ascension to power. The story kicks off as President Antón Castillo's only son, Diego, has just turned 13. But this birthday is more than a celebration—it's a rite of passage.

“Antón wishes to teach Diego important lessons in leadership and recounts cautionary tales he has heard about the undoing of three legendary men: Vaas Montenegro, a pirate, Pagan Min, a dictator, and Joseph Seed, a preacher."

In 2019, Ubisoft announced that they had partnered with Netflix’s Castlevania producer Adi Shankar for the YA series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe, which is based on the Far Cry 3 expansion Blood Dragon. No release date has been announced for the project.

Meanwhile, Marie-Joëlle Paquin, product director on Far Cry, stated, "Thanks to a wonderful collaboration with Dark Horse, we are thrilled to share with our fans the very first Far Cry comic series. Through Bryan and Geraldo's amazing work, we'll get a fresh look into our beloved villains' dark pasts. We can't wait for everyone to fall down this rabbit hole with us."

Far Cry: Rite of Passage #1 will be available on May 19. It is currently available for pre-order at blackcapecomics.com.
