Ubisoft has announced their support for the creation of a collegiate esports program.

The Collegiate Esports program will be rolled out for its flagship esports title, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. This program will allow for any college or university to form a team that represents the school, which then competes against other schools in a tournament similar to R6's pro league. With the new collegiate program in place, this allows any ambitious student to compete.

The newly formed league will also be launched in partnership with FACEIT, who will be the organization to operate the new program. For those who do not know, FACEIT is the leading platform for competitive online gaming. In addition to the partnership with FACEIT, Ubisoft has also acquired a premier sponsorship in the form of Corsair. Corsair's subsidiary, Origin PC, also will be sponsoring the league.

According to Ubisoft's official post, the program features an online platform that allows official school clubs to register themselves, which then gives access to a variety of local and cross-continental programs. For clubs to be eligible to register, they must consist of members that are full-time students to the school that they are attending. Once given access, teams will be allowed to do the following: Host intramural matches, host viewing parties/live events, manage club members and their respected teams, manage matches and results, and request prizing.

R6 Attackers and Defenders

For prospective students looking to join the league, the program has already launched for registered students across the US and Canada. The Collegiate Program also supports all skill levels, enabling anyone to participate. There is going to be a total of two seasons per year. The first season will have a total playtime of 6 weeks, with a break in-between. The second season will be slightly longer than the first season, having a total playtime of an additional 2 weeks. The 2nd season also includes a National Championship. Each participating club has the chance to earn prizes from Rainbow Six and Ubisoft, including a total of $30,000 in prize money.

With the release of the Rainbow Six Collegiate Program, any student that wants to get more involved with the game can do so through this program. Over the past years, collegiate esports has been grown steadily, becoming more and more prominent. With the formation of the Rainbow Six Collegiate Program, this only highlights this ever-growing popularity and encourages more companies to create collegiate esports for their own titles too. This growing popularity should not be expected to stop anytime soon, on the contrary, should be expected to grow to unprecedented heights. You should look forward to watching the collegiate esports scene and its future.
