The Uncharted film serves more as an origin story to the version of Nathan Drake that fans have come to know and love in the gaming world. A younger, less experienced take on the character sees Tom Holland embody the role and begin the story of Nathan Drake’s treasure hunting adventures.

The end of the film hints at many things for the future of the series, many of which seem like direct callbacks to the games. Spoiler alert for those who have yet to see the Uncharted movie as the end of the events of the movie will be discussed throughout.

8 A Sam And Nathan Reunion

Like the narrative of Uncharted: Drake’s Deception and Uncharted: A Thief’s End, the film focuses on the relationship between Nathan and his missing brother Sam. And while he is presumed dead by Nathan and Sully, a post-credits scene shows him alive and in jail.

A sequel would most likely explore how and why Sam is in jail and potentially see him and Nathan reunite at some point. Regardless of what new adventure Nathan Drake finds himself on, his relationship with his brother will most likely be connected and affect it in some way, shape, or form.

7 New Characters Are Introduced

The Uncharted film introduces many favorite characters from the franchise that fans would recognize straight away. The likes of Chloe Frazer and Victor “Sully” Sullivan are among them. A sequel to this film could see even more iconic characters join the cast.

For example, the introduction of Elena Fisher, a character that features across most of the Uncharted games and is Nathan Drake’s main love interest throughout the franchise. Given the way Nathan and Chloe end things in the recent film, a sequel would be a great way to introduce Elena and to have her in a central role, leaving room for Chloe to return later down the track.

6 An Adaptation Of The First Game

Uncharted Drake's Fortune Poster Image

While this first film plays out more like an origin story for Nathan Drake, a sequel could see the character back on track with the games. This is largely due to the post-credits scene mentioning the main villain of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the first game in the series

If the sequel was to double back to the original title, it would mean the films could follow a more linear system when adapting the games. Given that the first film largely avoided taking inspiration from Drake's Fortune, the follow-up could go all-in on bringing the title that started it all to life.

5 Characters Having Different Roles From The First Film

A second Uncharted film could see characters from the first movie take on very different roles. Some for the better and some for the worse.

While Sully’s allegiances in the first film are questioned and tested, his father/son dynamic with Nathan Drake will likely be more established in a sequel. Rather than questioning each other’s trustworthiness, Nathan and Sully will fall into a more symbiotic partnership. On the flip side, Chloe Frazer could take on a more adversarial role and be even less trusting than in this first film.

4 The Introduction Of A Familiar Villain

The post-credit moments of the film teased many things for the future of the film series. And while fans may have been transfixed by Mark Wahlberg donning Sully’s iconic stash, the final moments of the movie hinted at who could be the next big baddie.

The second post-credits scene shows Nathan Drake sitting at a table with a man named Gabe, who reveals himself to be working for a man named Roman. Now, fans of the games would know this is a nod to Gabriel Roman, the main villain of the original game. This could see Nathan Drake’s next adventure on the big screen focus on Nate searching for the fabled El Dorado treasure. Roman then being brought into the picture as the main antagonist.

3 A Greater Exploration Into Nathan Drake Family Tree

Nathan Drake’s family heirloom, given to him in the early moments of the film by his brother Sam, plays a small role in the first Uncharted movie. However, this doesn’t mean this ring and the motto inscribed on it won’t lead to bigger things in the movies to come.

Throughout the first game, Nathan Drake uses said ring to solve puzzles and help uncover the mystery surrounding his connection to Sir Francis Drake. Moving forward, the sequel could place a greater significance on this and explore Nathan’s family ties in greater depth.

2 More References And Moments Taken Directly From The Games

If there is one thing the Uncharted movie was full of it was Easter Eggs and references. Some moments from the game are even being directly adapted onto the big screen spectacularly.

From lines and quotes to action set pieces, the Uncharted movie took great inspiration from its source material. Certain moments even see Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake and Sophia Ali’s Chloe Frazer wearing outfits almost identical to those worn by their respective characters in the games. A follow-up film would most likely follow suit and the possibilities are endless regarding what details the film writers and director choose to include in the film.

1 A More Experienced Version Of Nathan Drake

Fans were thrown into a frenzy when it was announced that Tom Holland would be taking on the role of Nathan Drake. Of course, people love Tom Holland, but Nathan Drake is most often depicted as an older, experienced, and hardened hero.

While Tom Holland is obviously still younger than the Nathan Drake fans have grown accustomed to, he will at least have experience on his side. With so much of this first film being his evolution into a treasure hunter, films in the future will most likely be more focused on adventure and fun rather than his growth into a death-defying adventurer.
