Back in 2007 when the original Uncharted game, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, was coming out, gamers didn't know what to expect. There wasn't any other franchise around at the time that was in any way comparable. Those that took a chance and purchased Uncharted, however, were greatly pleased.

Since then, the Uncharted series has dominated the video game industry. It's uniquely impressive story is ripe with fantastic characters that really set the series apart from any other. Among those fantastic characters were many interesting villains, each of them playing a key role in the fascinating plots of each game.

10 Talbot

The main henchman of Uncharted 3's primary antagonist, Katherine Marlowe, Talbot is one of the more eclectic villains to appear in the franchise. Although he doesn't say much, Talbot makes for one of the creepiest bad guys that Nathan Drake has to contend with throughout the series.

Talbot and his mind-altering weapons create a serious impediment for Drake and his allies as they try to uncover the mystery behind the thrid Uncharted game. Nevertheless, Drake is able to outwit the villain by the end of the game.

9 Harry Flynn

You begin Uncharted 2: Among Thieves believing that Harry Flynn is your ally. It doesn't take long for him to show his true colors, however. After Flynn betrays Drake in the first act, the two treasure hunters continue to compete with one another for the rest of the game as they try to locate the mystical Shambala.

Flynn makes for more of a comical foil than a legitimate villain. Nevertheless, his snarky attitude and competitive nature make him a great addition to Uncharted 2.

8 Gabriel Roman

Gabriel Roman is the very first antagonist that the playable character comes into contact within the Uncharted series. Sully owes Roman some money and Roman later becomes hellbent on collecting by forcing the aging thief to find the coveted El Dorado treasure.

Roman presents himself as a man in charge, like a man who knows exactly what he wants and exactly how to get it. This makes him intimidating throughout the game. Or, at least until he is betrayed near the end.

7 Asav

In the addendum to the series, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the game developers had to be somewhat unconventional with their choice of villain. Now that Chloe and Nadine are the main characters that the player is following, the series needed a villain that matched up with them.

Having trained to be a doctor before becoming a rebel leader, it is Asav's intellectual nature that makes him such an intimidating foe. Unfortunately, following his untimely demise at the end of Lost Legacy, fans won't be seeing him pop up in any games in the future.

6 Katherine Marlowe

No villain in the Uncharted franchise has deeper, closer ties to Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan than the villain behind Uncharted 3, Katherine Marlowe. The former flame of Victor Sullivan, Marlowe was one of the very first marks that Nathan ever stole from.

Marlowe brings a new flair to the franchise along with her villainy. The mysterious nature of her organization and what exactly she is after drives the story forward in a very interesting way.

5 Rafe Adler

The former partner of Sam and Nathan Drake, Rafe became the duo's number one competitor in the final main installment in the Uncharted series (at least the final one for now) Uncharted 4: A Theif's End.

He's not quite the best villain in the Uncharted franchise, but he is no pushover either. Drake's final sword fight with the character, and the dialogue between them during said fight, really reveals what a sadistic, self-centered and utterly interesting villain Rafe really is.

4 Nadine Ross

Nadine Ross serves as Rafe's hired help during the Uncharted 4 campaign. She certainly proves to be more than a handful for the two Drake brothers to deal with. A badass mercenary, Nadine is an expert hand to hand combatant and consummate professional attributes that neither Drake brother can claim for themselves.

Players get the sense that Nadine isn't quite as morally corrupt as Rafe as the story moves on. This adds some depth to her character and really helps her stand out as a villain.

3 Eddie Raja

It's a shame Eddie Raja didn't make it out of the first Uncharted game, because he was one of the most memorable characters to grace the entire series. Players still remember this bad guy as one of the most fun characters they had ever come across in a video game.

Eddie's fiery attitude and golden gun were both trademarks of an unforgettable character. Towards the end of the game, Drake and Raja are forced to put aside their differences to try and stay alive. That is easily one of the franchise's most exciting moments.

2 Atoq Navarro

Although players were initially given the idea that Gabriel Roman was the evil mastermind behind Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, as it turned out, it was Roman's number two, Atoq Navarro, who was pulling the strings behind the scenes. It isn't until the very end of the game that this reveal is made and Atoq is shown to be the evil mastermind that he really was.

The final showdown between Navarro and Drake is intense and iconic. It is probably one of the best boss battles in the entire franchise. A fitting end for a memorable villain.

1 Zoran Lazarević

Unlike many of the other characters on this list, there isn't a lot of depth to Zoran Lazarević's character. Why then, you might ask, is he at the top of this list? Well, sometimes it's nice to have a bad guy with a complicated set of motivations. Other times, it's more fun to fight someone that is pure evil.

That is exactly what Lazarević is, pure evil. He simply wants to gain the ultimate power so that he can become a despotic ruler. There's nothing special about him in this way. However, the way that the story reveals his terrifying despicable character, along with the performance given by the voice actor behind the villain, make him truly the greatest bad guy Nathan Drake ever fought against in the Uncharted series.
