Usually, there's a pretty good reason why a game doesn't take off; server issues, clunky handling, or it's just not that fun to play. This tends to give all the never-weres a bad name, but there are a few occasions that let a great game slide under the rug. This means you can get them for less than your top of the range ''summer blockbuster'' and not have to downgrade on quality.

8 The Long Dark

This game is unique in that it's a survival game... with no zombies or supernatural beasts of that kind. Which almost makes it eerier as you get into the game and realize it's just you and nature to contend with.

The Long Dark also doesn't have any specific path for you to follow. Allowing you to be in full control of what you do once you crash land in a frozen tundra. You still have imminent threats to worry about like animals and weather, but it's in the nothingness that it gets most suspenseful.

7 Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

Ace Combat is one of the OG's in sky combat. Running it back to 1995 when it was first released, the game has always attracted big attention for its quality. Now with games like Battlefield and Call Of Duty also adding plane control into their gameplay Ace Combat is left to the real enthusiasts.

6 Sunset Overdrive

A game that deserves to be considered among the great Xbox exclusives out there. For whatever reason, it missed its chance at greatness and now sits in the shadows as a never was. Sunset Overdrive really brings zombies out of the dreary setting we usually find them in and into some color.

Skating around, killing energy drink created zombies, whats not to like? You can rack up some amazing combos by combining your skills on the wheels and taking out the undead. The zombie genre could have used this to take the best elements out of the game and put it in a more engaging environment.

5 Army Of Two

While co-op games have recently picked up a little steam, with the likes of A Way Out and Warhammer on the scene. Back in 2008 when Army Of Two was first released it was a pioneer of sorts. Not that co-op is a new idea but the execution was unreal especially with Call Of Duty already in the shooter space.

Army Of Two lets you customize just about every part of yourself from the weapon to the outfit. 4 Ryse: Son Of Rome

Ryse is one of those games that players hold near and dear. Being one of the first games available on the Xbox One it was up to the front line to show you exactly what the console can do, and reliably. Which is why Ryse still holds up despite the patchy storyline.

The gameplay is what really makes it great anyway, taking you from cutting enemies down through a number of roman settings. The gameplay is smooth and the fighting brings you a sense of satisfaction as you deliver a brutal end to your enemy.

3 Ori And The Blind Forest

A real started-from-the-bottom-story, when you learn that this game was funded by Kickstarter. Its real potential was never achieved for what it was, a marketing campaign is hardly on the budget when people are donating just to get the game made.

Political strategy has become incredibly popular in society now that TV shows and movies have started to cover them. Massive Chalice puts you in charge of making those wise decisions as an immortal leader of a nation. Protect your people, grow your resources, and strengthen your bloodline with this turn-based game.

1 State Of Decay: Day One

Zombie games have proven themselves to be a great hit among the players of any console. However as usual when somethings successful they run the well dry, and boy is it dry. Players are starting to get tired of blasting through the same old horde with minor changes, which lets the smaller titles get some shine.

While you can do some serious damage to a roaming zombie in this game, it's a survival situation rather than a fast-paced shooting practice. With you having to find a safe space and hunker down, protecting your valuables and gathering resources. Gathering those resources can come with some serious consequences, especially at night when the more dangerous zombies come out to play.
