Unrailed is an extremely fun mix of puzzle and crafting game, challenging you to build tracks for your train to progress through different biomes. You have to keep track of your train’s speed, keep the train from overheating, and avoid obstacles, all while gathering resources to create train tracks. The game is designed to be a multiplayer experience, which makes sense given how much you have to keep track of in order to progress.

The game provides you with a variety of different wagons to add to your train, which can help you along the way. These need to be unlocked and purchased with bolts collected in the game. Some wagons are more helpful than others, so you may want to prioritize which ones to unlock first.

10 Essential Tools: Crafter Wagon

Let’s start off with an obvious choice: the crafter wagon. While you don’t have a choice whether to include this wagon on your train or not, it is an essential tool, which makes it one of the best wagons in the game.

The crafter wagon gives you the ability to build new train tracks so you can move your train forward across the biome you’re in. It’s a vital tool, and for that reason, it deserves a shout-out.

9 Start Off With A Boom: Dynamite Wagon

The dynamite wagon is a dangerous addition, but it's helpful if you know what you’re doing. As the name suggests, the dynamite wagon creates explosives you can use to remove obstacles in the path of your train or get quick access to resources.

While this is certainly a necessary tool, it can also blow up in your face — literally. It can and will clear everything in its blast radius, including you, but all resources from anything exploded will be left behind for you to collect.

8 Carry One For The Team: Buckinator Wagon

The buckinator wagon’s job is all about giving superpowers to your handy bucket, primarily used to put out fires on the train. It may seem like a minor assist, but the buckinator wagon’s function is invaluable and can be tailored to the player’s needs.

Want to mine faster for greater rewards? Give your dynamite an extra kick without a powered-up dynamite wagon? Stuck in the snow biome? The buckinator wagon can help with all those problems. By charging your bucket on the wagon, you can mine more efficiently, power up your dynamite, or melt snow faster.

7 Rich In Resources: Miner Wagon

If you’re looking for another tool to quickly gather resources, look no further than the miner wagon. While you’re off scouting for materials away from the train, the miner wagon can gather items right next to your train. Keep in mind you’ll need to feed it some iron to get it to run and it’ll only gather materials up to a certain distance from the train. It will save you some work if you’re passing through a material-rich area, though.

It’s one wagon certainly worth upgrading quickly so its reach can expand further out and save you valuable time chopping trees and striking rocks.

6 Life Hack: Transformer Wagon

The transformer wagon provides another resourceful material hack for your building needs. Though not as flashy as the other wagons that effectively farm or expose resources in your biome, the transformer wagon does allow you to swap out wood for iron and vice versa.

This trade happens at a one-for-one exchange rate, so if you’re abounding in one material but in need of another, the transformer wagon is the way to go. It can be a small but helpful wagon to attach, just in case.

5 Slow Down There: Brake Wagon

One of the many variables as you build a path for your train across the biomes is your train’s speed. Your train gains speed as it progresses, but if you haven’t finished your track before the train reaches the edge, it’s game over.

This is where the brake wagon can come in handy. As the name suggests, it will slow down your train to buy you more time to finish your path forward.

4 Movin’ On Through: Ghost Wagon

While the goal of Unrailed! is to remove obstacles in your train’s path, oftentimes the train itself can be an obstacle to you as you gather materials, build and place new tracks, and more. This is where the Ghost Wagon comes in handy.

One of the extra wagons you’re able to unlock, the Ghost Wagon allows you to pass through the train (except the actual engine itself). This saves you from making a detour around the train, allowing you to complete your tasks more quickly.

3 Good For The Bones: Milk Wagon

The milk wagon not only has a terrific design, resembling various forms of the milk carton with different upgrades, but also gives you great benefits to aid you in building your train’s path. Gaining these abilities isn’t always easy. You’ll have to herd an animal to the milk wagon and attach it there in order to fill up the tank with milk.

The rewards, though, are certainly worth it. Once you’ve gathered enough milk from the animal of your choice, you’ll be able to unlock its special abilities for a brief amount of time. Different animals provide different powers, too, to allow you to mine more effectively, carry more items, and more.

2 It’s Your Lucky Day: Slot Machine Wagon

As the name suggests, the slot machine wagon can provide you with random rewards—or the occasional punishment. When you activate the slot machine and get a match, the rewards include a material drop, some dynamite, or a full set of ready-to-use rails. The risk? The wagon could also trigger an explosion instead.

This wagon is only available through the Unrailed! DLC, but adds an extra layer of fun and chance to the run.

1 The Ultimate Support: Supercharger Wagon

Now here’s one wagon you’ll want to prioritize getting and upgrading: the supercharger wagon. When charged with iron, the supercharger wagon supports the wagons on either side of it by amplifying their abilities. So if you want a faster crafting experience or a larger blast of dynamite, the supercharger wagon can provide that boost.

While all wagons do have a series of upgrades to unlock with bolts, the supercharger wagon can actually exceed the normal maximum level, giving even the highest tier of wagons an extra enhancement. The supercharger wagon is the ultimate train addition for that reason.
