A lot of people love to watch horror movies and creepy TV shows to get scared. Although not many people are interested in actually having a malicious spirit in their house or buying a haunted doll, there are a lot of people that like to watch others go through similar situations.

Thanks to the rise in popularity of horror video games, people are able to step into the shoes of someone in a super scary situation and control everything that happens and experience the scares up close, without even having to leave the house or head out to a creepy place.

Updated on October 13, 2020 by Elise Nelson: The year 2020 has almost come to a close, and it has been filled with a ton of great releases in the horror genre, such as The Last of Us II and the Resident Evil 3 remake. Still, there are two months left in the year, and we're expecting that even more killer releases will make their way to PC and consoles by the end of the holiday season. And with Halloween right around the corner, there's no better time to take a look at all the spooky titles we hope to see in the coming weeks.

10 Deathground

Created by Jaw Drop Games, Deathground is a survival horror game that allows for both solo missions and co-op squad-based missions. Brave through the immersive environments to retrieve "high-value loot" as dinosaurs hunt and chase you down.

Whether you choose stealth or choose to fight, the AI of the dinosaurs reacts to the choices you make, necessitating strategy if you wish to make it out of the 'deathground' alive. The Kickstarter for this game is still going, but it's reached its goal for funding and is said to be coming out soon.

9 The Dark Picture Anthology: Little Hope

The second game in The Dark Picture Anthology, Little Hope takes on a more supernatural tone towards horror than Man of Medan. Set in New England, players will have control of a new group of characters as they explore a ghost town with a history of witch-hunting back in the 1600s.

Just as with Man of Medan, player's choices greatly affect the outcome of the game and there are two multiplayer mode options; "Shared Story" for online co-op and "Movie Night" for up to five players locally. Little Hope is scheduled to be released on October 30th of this year.

8 System Shock

Nightdive Studios is planning to release a remake of the 1994 hit video game System Shock sometime this year. The first-person action-adventure is set aboard a space station in the year 2072. The player takes on the role of a hacker who must thwart the plans of an artificial intelligence named SHODAN.

Development on the game began as a Kickstarter campaign. Initially, the developers anticipated a 2017 release, but System Shock was ultimately put on hold, as the team wanted to take a step back and reassess the project. It is now expected later in 2020.

7 The Medium

Set to release during 2020's holiday season, The Medium is set in two worlds; the real world and the spirit world. With your psychic powers, you have the ability to travel between both, where you have to solve puzzles, uncover clues about the abandoned Niwa resort, and battle against a monster known as The Maw.

The Medium features patented "dual reality" gameplay, where you can explore both worlds at the same time. The game world is inspired by Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński’s paintings and has a soundtrack co-created by acclaimed music composers of horror games Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka.

6 Under

For horror fans with Submechanophobia (the fear of sinking ships), Under is a game that will play on that fear. You play as WW1 veteran Alexander Dockter who suffers from the trauma the war has afflicted him with.

He's stuck on an ocean liner that's sinking in the middle of the night while fighting against terrifying entities that seem keen on stopping him from escaping. You can discover a way off of the sinking ship and more about Alexander and the creatures that plague him when the game is released sometime in the 3rd Quarter.

5 Once Upon A Time In Roswell

Roswell, New Mexico has become infamous in the world of the supernatural for a 1947 incident in which people claimed to have seen a UFO flying over the city. Since then, Roswell has become popular with people that want to believe that something is out there and that we're not alone in the universe.

Set to be released in December of 2020, Once Upon a Time In Roswell is a psychological thriller that takes the player to Roswell where they're tasked with investigating the terrifying disappearance of a family in 1947.

4 Chernobylite

Chernobylite is currently available as an early access title on Steam, but the developers have announced that the full game won't be out until sometime in 2020. This game was originally founded on Kickstarter and uses recreations and 3D scans of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone for its setting.

In this game, the player controls a former physicist who was working at the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. Over three decades after the disaster that took place there, this scientist heads back to the disaster zone in order to try to find their missing partner.

3 Atomic Heart

Atomic Heart is an upcoming horror game and first person shooter, rolled into one. This game is set to be released sometime in 2020 and is set in an alternate history. The game is set at some point between the 1930s and the 1960s, but the bizarre, futuristic landscape makes it feel like a whole new time period.

The character plays special agent P-3 who is working for the Soviet Union. The government has sent P-3 to a manufacturing plant that seems to be having some kind of issues, but they never could have anticipated what P-3 will be finding there.

2 Visage

Bummed that P.T. didn't pan out? Don't worry, another game studio has stepped up and has been working on a similarly suspenseful, totally eerie horror game that's set to be fully released in 2020. It's currently in early access on Steam for people that just can't wait, but the developers have stated that the full game will be out sometime in 2020.

Visage is a horror game that takes place in a house where terrible things are said to have happened. As the player explores the house, they start to discover the secrets that are held within its walls and the eerie atmosphere builds to a truly terrifying experience.

1 Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 is a sequel to the 2015 zombie game Dying Light. This game is set to be released in the spring or summer of 2020 and is set 15 years after the events of the first game. Like the first game, this game has a pretty strong focus on parkour and is set in a massively open-world environment.

The story focuses on the way humanity is trying their best to move on following the zombie apocalypse that had broken out before the start of the first Dying Light game. This game also has a strong focus on decisions and certain choices that the player makes will open up different quest lines and areas of the map.
