Virtual reality games can often go unnoticed by the wider player base, and this is a downright shame. Those with a VR setup would do well to keep their eyes open for exciting new releases that test the limits of this already impressive hardware.

6 Fracked

This action-packed game is launching quite soon, with a recently announced release date of August 20. And “action” is using the term lightly. Fracked embodies the typical high-blown stunts frequently seen in action-adventure movies, and if the gameplay is anything like how it appears in the demo, it’s going to be one wild ride. Rushing down a snow-covered mountain while an avalanche churns behind you, taking cover behind some boxes as enemies fire at you from across a gap, and ziplining down a rope with one hand holding a gun are just a few of the choice moments Fracked has shown us. VR is an already highly immersive experience, and Fracked looks to dip you into the spectacular role of an action star. It is a splashy addition to the PS VR library.

5 Wanderer

sci-fi wanderer

Wanderer is a VR journey through time like no other seen before. You take on the various roles of influential explorers of days gone by as you try to uncover why the future is as broken as it appears. Your task of solving why humanity is in a slump in 2061 is gargantuan to say the least, but it makes for an intriguing adventure. Having the opportunity to be immersed in different time periods is thrilling. With a mix of puzzle-solving and a few shooting sequences, Wanderer presents a mystery for the literal ages. Anyone with PS VR, Oculus, or Steam VR will be able to unravel the secrets of this time-bending narrative.

4 Song In The Smoke

Using a blend of prehistoric environments with a fantasy twist, Song in the Smoke thrusts you into a gorgeous survival adventure. You have to craft weapons and sources of light to keep these nightmarish creatures from gobbling you up.

Crafting in video games is a frequent occurrence, but it is nifty to see it implemented in a VR game, especially one that looks as beautiful as this. Torches, axes, and bows are at your disposal once you make them. And you’ll need them if you want to survive. Some of the animals seen in the trailer look like dinosaurs, and if there is one thing we know about dinosaurs in video games, it’s that they are not always friendly.

3 Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Tempestfall

Age of Sigmar Tempestfall swordfight

The Warhammer universe is one of the most expansive franchises out there. There have been countless books and video games that have spanned all sorts of genres and appeared on all sorts of platforms. It makes perfect sense that it would dip a toe into the VR space. Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Tempestfall places you in the role of a Lord-Arcanum doing battle with the Nighthaunt. You wield a mighty sword that slays enemies in a single slash or you call down magic from the sky with a staff. Both approaches look to get the job done in the game’s trailer, and it appears to work well with VR controls. Whether you’re a fan of the Warhammer series or an avid VR enthusiast, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Tempestfall promises a fantastical good time.

2 Lone Echo 2

The first Lone Echo was a phenomenal VR game that placed you in zero-gravity environments and tasked you with maneuvering your way through various puzzles. It was innovative and included a fantastic narrative, especially given how brief the stories in VR games tend to be. Therefore, it is understandable why its sequel would be such a prized gem when it comes to upcoming VR games. Both Liv and Jack return as characters, and the story picks up after the events of the first game. Enemies are a pivotal addition to the game. Instead of simply navigating through areas while floating weightlessly through space, you will now have to avoid hostile “ticks” as you do so.

1 After The Fall

What could be better than a solo VR experience? Well, how about a co-op VR experience? After the Fall allows up to four players to team up and fight zombified enemies. The FPS action is frenetic, and you will find yourselves hard-pressed to survive the waves of enemies thrown at you. Special types of these ice-covered monstrosities will throw themselves at you as well, making survival a joint effort. Shooting hordes of zombies is nothing new to gaming, but it is a classic formula to ensure an enjoyable time. PS VR owners should keep their fingers crossed to acquire this game some time later this year.
