Death Stranding PS4 To PS5 Physical Upgrade Steps
If you have a physical version of Death Stranding, you will also require a PS5 with a physical disc drive - this might seem obvious, but people get tripped up more often than you'd think. Although most games are digital these days, physical games still have their use cases - especially since a pre-owned copy of Death Stranding and the upgrade price is often much cheaper than buying the game at full price currently.
Follow these steps to get your upgrade.
- Insert the PS4 Death Standing disc into the PS5.
- When the Death Stranding icon appears on the menu, go to the "…" ellipsis menu to see more options.
- The first available option should be a store listing for a Death Stranding upgrade. Select this.
- Purchase this from the store - £5 in the UK, and equivalents in other territories.
- Once this has been purchased, you will have the license to play a digital copy of Death Stranding Director's Cut as long as the physical PS4 version is inserted into the disc drive.
Having to keep the PS4 version of the game in the disc drive is a minor frustration, especially since both the PS5 and PS4 icons are likely to appear on your dashboard, but it's a simple way to get the latest experience.

- Go to the "…" ellipsis menu to the right of the install option.
