Your base in V Rising is a grand castle, which will hold all of your production equipment and valuable loot. Earlier in the game, you will be prompted to place your Castle Heart and settle down, but choosing where to place your castle can be a difficult process.

The map is quite large, with dozens of possible locations for your castle. Over time, your castle will grow so you will also need to consider the size of the area. In this guide, we are going to go over some of the best locations to build your castle, as well as what to look out for while scouting for a place to call home.

Updated May 24, 2023 by Jacqueline Zalace: V Rising: The Secrets of Gloomrot brought an entirely new area to the game, as well as tweaks to the castle-building system. Although Gloomrot can be quite dangerous, it's still possible to settle here and call it your home. We've updated this guide with new content provided in The Secrets of Gloomrot.

Building On Platforms

One of the best places to build is on raised ground. These are flat areas with no paths or permanent structures to block your castle.

Raised ground serves as a great, secluded area for you to build on. These areas are easily visible on the map, due to their thick outline and yellow-green tint.

Finding A Central Location

Your castle should serve as a central location, allowing you to easily travel around the map. Because of this, it's important to find a location on the map that is near resources.

For example, on the map above, you can see a great central location for a castle in the Farbane Woods. This location is surrounded by smaller bandit camps, as well as the Bandit Logging Camp, Bandit Copper Mine, and the Forgotten Cemetery.

Locations that would not work well would be around the initial starting area, where you first enter the woods. If you settle in this location, you will have to go on many long journeys just to find basic resources.

Size Matters

Your castle can be multiple floors, but it's always good to have enough space, especially if you are sharing your castle with other friendly players. This means that you need to find an area big enough for you to build on.

At the start of the game, you won't have the most amount of building options, and you will only need to focus on a few production stations. Over time, you will unlock more items and stations that will need their own room in the castle.

You want your castle to look good, so be sure to think about any decorative areas, such as an entrance hall or courtyard.

We recommend looking for a larger platform area, capable of holding all of your belongings. If a raised platform has another tier, you can build a staircase up to this area. Staircases can also be used to connect your castle to another platform if you want to expand your castle grounds even further.

Base Building In PvP

Overall, building your base in a PvP server is pretty similar. One difference to keep in mind is accessibility to other players, who may want to destroy your castle. If you are playing on a PvP server and want to hide your castle, try positioning yourself on a large platform that is out of the way.

Remember to build a Waygate, allowing you to teleport around the map. We also recommend getting yourself a horse so you can travel quickly.

If you want an extra layer of security, you can build your castle in an area with strong enemies that spawn nearby. These enemies will serve as 'guards' that attack other players that try to enter and destroy your castle.

Ideal Castle Location Options

Now, let's take a look at some locations that work great for your castle. This will be separated by area on the map.

Area

Locations To Build

Farbane Woods

Cursed Forest

Silverlight Hills

Gloomrot

We don't recommend building on the northwestern side of Gloomrot, as this area is quite dangerous.

If you are playing on a server with several other people, it may be hard to find the ideal spot that you want. Fortunately, there are no 'bad' spots to build, so you shouldn't stress too hard about the decision.

Overall, build at the location that you like the best. Once you have your own Waygate, a horse, and enough resources to be self-sufficient, you do not need to worry as much about the location.

Can You Move Your Castle?

Castles can't be moved, but you will be able to abandon them. This will essentially deactivate the castle as your base, allowing you to create another one elsewhere.

To do this, simply approach the Castle Heart and interact with it. Upon choosing the option to abandon your castle, it will start to gradually decay. If you want to give up your castle, but don't want it to be gone, you can also transfer ownership. This is done by exposing the castle, which allows another player to claim it.
