V Rising allows you to create grand castles and consume the blood of your enemies to become the ultimate vampire. Unfortunately, it's difficult to do either if the sun is bursting your character into flames. Vampires are deathly allergic to vitamin D in this game, so you'll want a roof over your head to properly use your castle during the day.

The thing is, creating a roof is locked behind a bit of progression. In this short guide, we'll quickly cover how to create castle roofs in V Rising, and we'll give an alternative to castle roofs for players who are just starting out and don't have access to higher-grade castle materials.

Updated October 3, 2023, by Sean Murray: Any good vampire lord should know how to make a roof just like they should know how to turn a villager into a loyal servant. That's why we've refreshed this guide with improved formatting and more links to other helpful V Rising topics.

Creating Castle Roofs

V Rising Castle Roofing Example 3

To create a roof, you must use Reinforced Walls and Castle Flooring from the "Castle" tab. You'll need Stone Bricks and Planks to make them. With those reinforced walls and flooring ready, create any sized room.

A roof will be dynamically generated over the enclosed space you created, blocking that room from any direct sunlight.

The size of the roof will change based on how large the enclosed space is. For example, if you make a 1x1 room with Reinforced Walls, the roof will only generate above that 1x1 space. Expanding that room with additional walls will extend the roof as well for no additional cost.

Palisades and other wooden structures cannot generate roofs; only materials from the "Castle" tab can do so. With that said, it's possible to mitigate the threat of sunlight by using Mist Braziers.

Using Mist Braziers To Protect Against Sun

V Rising Mist Brazier

Omitted from the tutorial quest, Mist Braziers can be crafted to prevent sunlight from affecting your character in a small radius—about a 3x3 area.

You can find them under the "Fundamentals" tab of the build menu, and they cost 120 Stone each.

Once built, you must fuel the Mist Braziers with Bones. One Bone is consumed every minute while the Mist Brazier is active. Turn them off during the night to save on resources.

Castle Roofing Tips

V Rising Castle Roof Featured
  • Focus on creating roofs over your crafting stations first. You can upgrade the rest of your castle later.
  • Use Braziers to cover sections of your castle you can't roof.
  • The walls which create the roof can be of any type under the "Castle" type.
    • Doorframes do not require doors to generate a roof, nor do Reinforced Window Walls.
