In addition to building your castle and fighting bosses in V Rising, you will also need to worry about several different types of damage. One of these damage types is garlic exposure. This is a slow-acting debuff that will not cause instant damage but can still be quite dangerous if you aren't careful.

In this guide, we are going to go over how to get garlic resistance so you can explore areas in the Dunley Farmlands without building up stacks of this debuff. First, let's take a look at all the places where you can be exposed to garlic.

Where Does Garlic Exposure Occur?

Throughout the Dunley Farmlands, you will find several farms and houses, as well as a few villages with townspeople. To protect themselves against vampires, these people will hang garlic on the outside of buildings, as well as posts near the entrance of an area.

When you pass by these areas, the corners of your screen will start to turn green, indicating that you are about to gain the garlic debuff. After the green is on your screen long enough, the debuff will begin to stack on the right-hand side of your screen, just above your skills. This means that if you enter into an area with garlic exposure, you can quickly run out without gaining any debuff stacks.

Garlic Exposure Effects

When you have the garlic exposure debuff, you will not take any damage. Instead, you will receive the following effects per stack.

  • 1 percent increase in damage taken
  • 0.5 percent damage dealt reduced

With one or two garlic exposure debuff stacks, you may not feel these effects, but this can stack up to 100.

100 stacks of the garlic debuff mean that you will now take 100 percent additional damage, and deal 50 percent less damage. This is a lot, so you definitely don't want to have the maximum amount of garlic exposure debuff stacks.

Because this debuff doesn't actively do any damage, you can continue what you are doing in the Dunley Farmlands if you don't plan on engaging in any combat.

Garlic Resistance Potions

There are two garlic resistance items that you can craft at the Alchemy Table. You can find both of these recipes below, as well as how to obtain them.

How To Unlock

Minor Garlic Resistance Brew

  • 40x Hell's Clarion
  • 4x Rat
  • 1x Water Filled Canteen

Defeat Polora the Feywalker

Garlic Resistance Potion

  • 20x Hell's Clarion
  • 20x Sunflower
  • 4x Rat
  • 1x Water Filled Bottle

Defeat Clive the Firestarter

If you place your Alchemy Table in an enclosed room with Alchemy Floors, you will be able to craft these two items will fewer materials.

These potions will increase your garlic resistance rating. Additionally, if you take one of these potions while you currently have the debuff, then it will disappear quickly. For example, if you have 70 stacks of the garlic exposure debuff and take a Garlic Resistance Potion, the stacks will go down quicker compared to if you hadn't taken a potion.

Using A Cloak To Prevent Garlic Exposure

For a long-term effect, you can also use a cloak to increase your garlic resistance. The Hunter's Cloak is likely the first cloak you will come across that has garlic resistance.

To obtain this cloak, you will first need to defeat Beatrice the Tailor, located in Dawnbreak Village. Once you have done this, you will receive the recipe for Hunter's Cloak which provides the following effects.

  • +18 Max Health
  • +15 Sun Resistance Rating
  • +15 Garlic Resistance Rating
  • +15 Silver Resistance Rating

To craft the cloak, all you need is six cotton yarn, which can be made by using cotton in the Loom, which is also learned after defeating Beatrice.

There are other cloaks that provide garlic resistance, but this is the easiest one to obtain since Beatrice the Tailor is only level 38.

Bear Form

Lastly, let's talk about bear form. Using this skill will turn you into a bear, which reduces the amount of damage that you take by 25 percent.

In bear form, you will not be able to use your skills or weapon, but it allows you to quickly move through garlic exposure areas without building up as many stacks.

Bear form is rewarded after defeating the Ferocius Bear, located in the Bear Cave on the eastern edge of the Farbane Woods.

Normally, garlic exposure stacks decrease one every 20 seconds. This means that every minute, you will lose three stacks of this debuff.

In bear form, garlic stacks decrease two every 20 seconds, meaning that you will lose six stacks per minute. If you are in a pinch with no potions and several stacks of garlic, try going into bear form.

That's all there is to know about garlic resistance! Overall, the garlic exposure debuff is easy to deal with if you are prepared.
