The progressive increase in V Rising's boss difficulty is remarkable, with late game threats utilising multiple powerful spells and abilities to bring you down. Matka the Curse Weaver is an example of such a fight, and wields strong Unholy magic to protect her beloved Swamp. Utterly beyond reason, she is the most powerful Witch in Vardoran, and vampires should tread carefully when approaching her realm.

This guide will provide information as to Matka the Curse Weaver's location, a breakdown of her abilities, and what rewards are on offer for overcoming her.

Matka The Curse Weaver's Location

V Rising Matka The Curse Weaver Map Location

Matka the Curse Weaver can be found in the Nest of the Curse Weaver location, in the Western section of the Cursed Forest. Her Nest is in fact a small clearing, and many of the forest's denizens will be situated around its entrance, including Toads and Mosquitos. Matka's affinity for animals will become even more prevalent during your encounter.

There are no notable patrols in the area, and you will mainly encounter the typical Cursed Forest enemies. Witches can prove especially troublesome, so take your time and slowly clear your way to the Nest. Due to the lack of shade in Matka's clearing, it is also wise to engage her at nighttime, in order to avoid taking damage from the sunlight.

The Nest of the Curse Weaver is only a short run North from the Cursed Forest Waygate, so you should not need to activate your Blood Altar to track Matka down.

Battle Strategy

V Rising Matka The Curse Weaver Boss Fight

Matka the Curse Weaver is a combat level 72 boss, and will likely be the toughest opponent you have faced thus far. She is very powerful, so don't be disheartened if she takes multiple attempts to bring down.

The Curse Weaver employs Unholy magic against you, with her primary spell being the summoning of Unholy Pillars. These will erupt from the ground in a wide area, so you will need to stay on the move, and they will spawn very frequently during the fight, so learning to dodge them is key.

  • Occasionally, Matka will cast a powerful Hex, turning you into a cute little piggy for a short while. This renders you incapable of using any item or ability, and you must instead focus on running around, dodging whatever projectiles Matka throws at you. She will shoot waves of Unholy Bolts form her staff during this phase, so try to stay as far away from her as possible and wait out the debuff.
  • Matka's signature ability is the spawning of Mosquito minions. These will lazily fly towards you, before exploding after a short delay. The hitbox is quite large, so you need to be vigilant in dodging them. The Mosquitos are killable, and do not possess very high health, but will also explode on death, so be careful if you decide to bring them down. Either killing or kiting can work here, as your main goal is to try and stick on Matka and keep the fight as short as possible.
  • At around 30 percent health, Matka will turn invulnerable and spawn multiple Mosquitos, that must be killed off before she can become attackable. Try to kill them one at a time, to avoid being nuked down by their death explosions, and using ranged spells or weapons will help you in avoiding the Mosquitos in general.

For your set-up, try running the combo of Sanguine Coil and a shield spell of your choice. Frost Barrier or Ward of the Damned are nice for helping deal with the Mosquitos and this combination will give you strong defensive power against her many spells.

Chaos Volley is a more offensive choice, but the healing provided from Sanguine Coil is especially nice for this fight, due to the sheer number of projectiles you will have to dodge.

For your Ultimate, Crimson Beam is tempting, but may lead to you being blown up by Mosquitos if used incorrectly. Volatile Arachnid or Chaos Barrage are your best choices, as they allow you to deal with Mosquitos from range.

By this point in the game, you could have acquired a Sanguine Reaper weapon, but if not, Dark Silver is usable. Bloodmoon armour is your go-to defence, and the classic choice of Scholar Blood will round out your build.

To summarise, engaging Matka in melee is generally fine, but try to either kite or kill Mosquitos from range, and when turned into a Pig, run for your life!

Matka The Curse Weaver's Rewards

V Rising Matka The Curse Weaver Blood Altar

If you can defeat the Curse Weaver, there are three rewards on offer.

The Vampire Power is Unstable Mosquito, an Unholy spell that mimics Matka's mosquito minions, chasing an enemy and exploding after a one-second delay. It deals decent damage, and applies a weakness debuff to all enemies hit, making them take 25 percent increased damage for five seconds.

While not a particularly high power ability, this can be used in combination with another AoE spell, for some decent burst. Disappointingly however, the damage is simply too low to be very useful and, due to the mosquito's nature, it is difficult to perfectly land the projectile. There are simply far better options by this stage of the game if you are seeking some AoE damage.

The best reward you will be granted is the Schematic recipe. Crafted at your Paper Press, these items can be used in your Athenaeum in order to research new technologies. This is extremely useful in order to learn how to create the strongest weapons and armour in the game (Sanguine and Bloodmoon), as well as the highest tier of decorations for your Castle. One Schematic will cost you:

  • 18 Silver Ore
  • Three Spectral Dust
  • Six Scrolls

You will also now be able to spawn Mosquitos from your Vermin Nest, allowing you to easily farm resources such as Scales. Perhaps the best aspect to this recipe, however, is the fact that Mosquitos spawn with a random Blood Type, giving you an easy-to-reach source of Scholar Blood for your boss fights.
