Quick Links

The Meadows is the first biome that you will come across in Valheim. This is the starting biome, and will most likely be the location of your first base. Although this is the first biome, it doesn't come without a handful of dangers that you will need to look out for.

In this guide, we are going to go over all there is to know about the Meadows biome. This will cover all available resources, as well as mobs that spawn here. Additionally, we will take a look at the preexisting structures that you can find here. First, let's go over mobs in the Meadows.

Mobs In The Meadows

There are two types of mobs; hostile and passive. Hostile mobs will attack you if you are close enough, while passive mobs won't do anything. We've separated these two types of mobs below, allowing you to check out what they drop.

Naturally Spawned Structures

VAlheim abandoned house villages Draugr

Along with rolling green hills, there are a few structures that appear in the Meadows. For the most part, these structures aren't dangerous and can be approached without preparation.

Structure

Description

Abandoned House

This is just one house that is partially destroyed. You can find loot inside, and some may even hold a beehive.

Stone Grave

These are oblong-shaped rocks, with smaller rocks closely surrounding it. Mining the larger rock will reveal loot such as bone fragments and a chest.

Ancient Stone Circle

This is just some very large stones in a circle, nothing more.

Viking Graveyard

This consists of headstone-shaped rocks in the overall shape of a Longship. Digging through the dirt will yield loot similar to that of a Stone Grave.

There are two additional, rare structures that can spawn; Draugr Villages and Burial Chambers.

Draugr Villages are essentially a larger collection of Abandoned Houses, set together like a broken-down village. You can loot these houses, but be sure to look out for any lingering Draugr that may appear.

Burial Chambers are Black Forest dungeons where you can find items like Surtling Cores. A Burial Chamber appearing in the Meadows is quite rare, but it can still happen. If you find one quickly after starting the game, we recommend gearing up and cooking some food before tackling the dungeon.

Food Ingredients

While exploring the Meadows, you will still need to eat. Thankfully, there are a few food sources that you can rely on.

Firstly, you can hunt boar, deer, and necks to get their meat. With the raw meat, you can then cook it at a campfire and eat it.

For more information on cooking, be sure to check out our complete ingredient and recipe guide.

In the Meadows, you can also find two foragable ingredients; Mushrooms and Raspberries. Mushrooms spawn within the wooded areas of the biome, and have a red cap, making them easy for you to spot.

Raspberries grow on bushes that can be found near the edges of open fields within the Meadows. Raspberries will continue to regrow until you remove the bush. Overall, these two ingredients are fairly easy to obtain.

Resources & Building Materials

Meadow Biome

Next, we have additional resources that you can obtain in the Meadows. While exploring the Meadows, you can find the following materials.

Material

Notes

Wood

Using a stone axe, you can chop down trees.

Fine Wood

Using a bronze axe, you can chop down Birch and Oak trees.

Flint

This can be gathered along shorelines.

Stone

These are spread on the ground, usually near larger rocks. You won't be able to mine stone with a pickaxe until you defeat Eikthyr.

Dandelion

These little flowers will spawn pretty much everywhere on the ground.

How To Find Fine Wood

Out of all the materials above, Fine Wood is the most difficult to obtain. Overall, you will need to venture into the Black Forest before getting your hands on this wood type.

Fine Wood drops from Birch (thin and white in appearance) and Oak trees when chopped with a bronze axe. Bronze is a metal that is crafted with Copper and Tin, which are both found in the Black Forest.

To mine these minerals, you will need a pickaxe, which means that you will need to defeat Eikthyr. By smelting tin and copper into bars and then combining them, you will get bronze which can then be crafted into a bronze axe. From here, just head to the white trees and chop one down.

Loot From Chests

While looting chests, you can find the following types of items.

  • Amber
  • Amber Pearl
  • Ruby
  • Silver Necklace
  • Coins
  • Feathers
  • Flint
  • Flint Arrow
  • Fire Arrow
  • Torch

Eikthyr

Valheim Eikthyr Forsaken Power

Lastly, let's talk about the boss of the Meadows biome, named Eikthyr.

Eikthyr will spawn at a Forsaken Altar, which looks like a 'table' surrounded by larger rocks. Here, you will just need to place two Deer Trophies, which will summon Eikthyr.

For a complete walkthrough, be sure to check out our Eikthyr boss guide.

Eikthyr will use a combination of melee and ranged attacks, and can fire lightning bolts towards you. Overall, it's not the hardest fight, especially if you stand at a distance and fire arrows. Just remember to bring along some food that boosts your stamina, so you can quickly dodge him.

Once defeated, Eikthyr will drop the following materials.

  • Eikthyr Trophy
  • Hard Antler

The Hard Antler can be used to make the pickaxe, and the trophy can be taken back to the Sacrificial Stones (where you spawned) to activate Eikthyr's Power, which provides a reduced stamina loss while you run and jump.
