Exploring every nook and cranny of a videogame can be just as fun as playing the game itself. After all, who knows what you will find, maybe a mysterious door nobody knows how to open or a fun easter egg that works more like an inside joke.

The newest indie game to became a total hit overnight, Valheim, is no different. So you better bet there are some easter eggs you can spot if you’re paying enough attention. It turns out that, when exploring the biomes and everything the game has to offer, you can actually spot Thor or Odin in the background.

Considering the game takes place in a procedurally generated Viking afterlife, it makes sense the Norse gods visit from time to time Valheim’s purgatory to take a look at how the Vikings are doing. Here's where you can find them.

How To Spot Odin

Cloaked Odin in Valheim

Odin is one of the most significant deities in the Norse/Germanic mythology, and he is the God you have to prove your worth to if you want to enter Valhalla and be by his side. According to the game’s lore, he is responsible for you being in Valheim since he is the one who commands Valkyries to search the battlefields for the best warriors, so they’ll come to this majestic, enormous hall located in Asgard.

The myth says that once in Asgard warriors "will feast on the flesh of a boar slaughtered daily and made whole again each evening. They drink liquor that flows from the udders of a goat, and their sport is to fight one another every day; thus, they will live until the Ragnarök."

In the game, you’ll find Odin in the distance. He randomly appears as a shadowy figure that seems to be watching players and will disappear in the blink of an eye. It’s easy to miss him since he is wearing the disguise he uses to walk amongst men, a hooded cloak. Plus, he is so far away that you can’t see his face; the only detail that tells him apart from any other cloaked figure is the fact that you can see his glowing eye, yes, just one. Odin is known for trading one of his eyes to obtain wisdom.

Sadly, there isn’t really something you can purposely do to make the Allfather appear to you, and since each world seed is different, he won't appear in the same spot for all the players. Still, players who have already defeated at least one boss are the ones reporting seeing Odin, so defeating his enemies might be a way to make the God spawn. Moreover, once you finally see him, don’t make the rookie mistake of going too close, as he will quickly disappear if you do.

Another good thing to keep in mind is that he will most likely appear at night, so when you’re exploring during that time, keep an eye out for Odin’s glowing eye.

How To Spot Thor

Thor flyring in the sky Valheim

Odin isn’t the only God roaming Valheim; players have reported seeing his son, Thor, too. However, Thor appears in a more show-offish way than his father, which makes perfect sense since Thor is known for being hot-headed and impulsive.

If you want to see for yourself the God of Thunder, look up at the sky when there’s a thunderstorm happening, chances are you’ll see Thor flying through the sky. If you want to increase your chances of seeing him, go ahead and defeat Moder, the boss located in a Mountain biome. However, you can see Thor before getting to that point in the game; it’s just less likely to happen before the fight with Moder.
