Are you tired of looking like a slightly pixelated Viking in Valheim? Then perhaps it’s time to don the look of some classic Witcher characters to shake things up.

The Witcher Characters In Valheim mod lets you play as The Witcher’s Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, or Triss. The models and faces all look far better than what you’d get in vanilla Valheim because the models have more polygons and use textures that aren’t measured in kilobytes. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but if you’ve been playing Valheim on a potato, note that installing this mod might slightly increase your system requirements.

To play as one of the four Witcher characters, simply create a new Viking and name them either “Geralt,” “Ciri,” “Yennefer,” or “Triss.” Then you’ll spawn in with the same outfit and face as the input character.

You can also rename your current Viking to turn them into Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, or Triss. You’ll need to go into Valheim’s Steam directory, locate your save file and settings.txt, and rename them both to the character you wish to play as. For Geralt, that’d mean renaming your save file as “Geralt.vrm” and “Geralt_Settings.txt.”

The mod requires Valheim VRM to work, which is another mod that allows character models to be imported into Valheim. Installation is simple: just unzip the Valheim VRM folder into your Valheim steam directory and you’re good to go.

Keep in mind that the models will never display what armor you’re wearing and will always keep the same appearance. Weapons and shields will update as per normal, however.

We’re pretty sure that Valheim will run just fine on the Steam Deck, but if you were worried that The Witcher 3 will have trouble on the Deck’s humble hardware, don’t be. CD Projekt Red recently showed The Witcher 3 running silky smooth on Valve’s upcoming handheld PC, which will start arriving to early adopters later this winter.
