The skincare drama saga is officially at an end. After a disastrous launch, at least on the PR front, the skincare range RFLCT's website has been updated, confirming that the product will be scrapped.
Despite promising to 'power up your skin's defence stats', we will now just have to leave our faces to the mercy of the blue light from our screens. Which luckily for us, probably isn't damaging our skin that much anyway.
The website had already undergone some changes to make it impossible for would-be buyers to get their hands on the range. But in the last few moments, it was updated once more with a sombre message:
"RFLCT is no longer available. Thank you to all who played important roles to conduct research, develop products, create a brand and serve as partners along our journey. While we believe in the formulations created, after further reflection, have decided to move forward on new paths, effectively terminating the RFLCT brand. Should you have further questions, please contact inquiries@rflct.com"
The controversy kicked off as soon as popular YouTube streamer Valkyrae revealed RFLCT to the world, alongside a glossy promo video and some, at best, questionable science. Credit where credit is due, they've left the video up for your viewing pleasure.
Despite the title of the range literally being "RFLCT By Valkyrae", the streamer was very quick to distance herself from the product as fans and other content creators questioned its unique selling point. With the face of the brand publically doubting the product they were selling, it seems RFLCT was forced to terminate the project - it was going to be hard to make sales when the person literally hired to do it wanted out.
Much like Valkyrae's own statement, the RFLCT team do not comment on the skincare range's effectiveness. Both they and the streamer had claimed that extensive research was done into the effects of blue light on the skin, but it just wasn't enough to convince the doubters.
