Riot Games have shaken up the ranks for their newest title, VALORANT, according to a recent leak on Reddit. The tactical shooter is currently breaking streaming records on Twitch while in its closed beta state.

The rank titles previously reported came from the alpha playtest that happened last month. Those ranks were Mercenary, Soldier, Veteran, Hero, Legend, Mythic, Immortal, and VALORANT.

According to an image obtained by a data miner on Reddit by the name of FloxaY, the new VALORANT rank titles will follow a much more traditional ladder, similar to the titles used in Riot's League of Legends. The new ranks are reported to start at Iron and players will be able to rank up to Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Immortal, and VALORANT, the game's premier rank.

These new rank titles represent a dramatic shift from what was previously reported. Using a more traditional set of titles can be beneficial for VALORANT and its player base. People coming from a game like League of Legends may find it easier to understand how the ranked system works, if the ladder uses familiar names. VALORANT's new ranked ladder is noticeably similar to that of League of Legends, only diverging after the diamond rank. The League of Legends ladder goes on to Master, Grandmaster and then Challenger, while VALORANT's goes on to Immortal and ends at VALORANT.

Although there is currently no ranked matchmaking in the closed beta, on April 10th, VALORANT game director Riot Ziegler hinted that a ranked playtest may be coming in a few weeks. When ranked does come out, players looking to climb through the game's ladder will have to start unranked, and progress from rank to rank as they increase their skill level.

Riot isn't set to fully release VALORANT until sometime over the summer, meaning these new rank titles aren't set in stone. It is possible for the development company to change their minds and go back to using the old titles, or for them to come up with a new set altogether. Either way, the game is expected by many to become one of the most competitive and most enjoyable titles in recent memory, and climbing through the ranked ladder should be gratifying to say the least.
