Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service has been an absolute game changer for the industry. There are constant rumours about the service coming to more platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. It has also reportedly caused PlayStation to start working on its own version of the subscription service, codenamed Spartacus. While Valve has no plans on introducing such a service of its own, it reportedly wouldn't mind bringing Game Pass to Steam.

A lot has been stirring at the company, given the recent number of announcements being put out. For instance, Aperture Desk Job, a free game set in the Portal universe that's definitely "Not Portal 3!". However, you can be sure that the company's primary focus as of now is the launch of the Steam Deck. Besides getting the handheld console out the door, Valve is also busy trying to make as many games as possible available to play on it.

However, once the Steam Deck is out and about, the company could be looking at other integrations – Game Pass perhaps. "I don't think it's something that we think we need to do ourselves, building a subscription service at this time," Gabe Newell told PC Gamer. "But for their customers it's clearly a popular option, and we'd be more than happy to work with them to get that on Steam."

"We've talked to people there quite a bit about that topic," he continued. "If your customers want it, then you should figure out how to make it happen. That's where we're at."

While that remains to be seen, Valve will drop Aperture Desk Job on March 1. According to its Steam page, the game "reimagines the been-there-done-that genre of walking simulators and puts them in the lightning-spanked, endorphin-gorged world of sitting still behind things. You play as an entry-level nobody on their first day at work — your heart full of hope and your legs full of dreams, eager to climb that corporate ladder. But life’s got other plans, and they all involve chairs."

While that doesn't tell us much at all, it seems the game might be a short experience, specifically created to show off the Steam Deck.
