A new game set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe has been announced, only this one will belong to the battle royale genre, rather than being a narrative-focused title.

Vampire: The Masquerade is a tabletop RPG set in contemporary times, where the players take on the roles of vampires. Unlike games like Dungeons & Dragons, Vampire: The Masquerade is focused on stories of personal horror and controlling addiction. As such, the bulk of the modern Vampire: The Masquerade video games (like Night Road and Shadows of New York) have a much stronger focus on personal narrative than action or skill-based gameplay.

A number of Vampire: The Masquerade/World of Darkness video games are in development, and a new one has just been announced. The game is the first title being developed by Sharkmob studios. Sharkmob has revealed a cinematic trailer for a Vampire: The Masquerade battle royale game, which is set to be released near the end of 2021. The first trailer for the game can be seen on the Sharkmob YouTube channel.

The untitled Vampire: The Masquerade battle royale game will be set in Prague, as Kindred fight on the rooftops against each other. They will also face a mysterious being called the Entity that is trying to destroy all vampires. Players will be able to fight alone or team up with their friends in battle.

The idea of a Vampire: The Masquerade battle royale might seem as if it goes against the lore of the setting, but there were conflicts on a huge scale in the modern nights as part of the original World of Darkness. A book called Nights of Prophecy detailed a war between the Camarilla and the Sabbat in New York City back in '99, which was waged without the Masquerade being breached. As such, a similar conflict could also happen in Prague. Upholding the Masquerade is a huge part of the tabletop game, and it's possible that it could play a part in the battle royale. A game where you have access to vampire superpowers, but can't use them when spectators are around would make for an interesting twist on the genre.
