Vampire Survivors is a popular roguelike game with timed survival and minimalist gameplay. The goal of the game is to survive by defeating enemies using a chosen character’s passive ability and weapon. You can upgrade a character by purchasing additional weapons, using item add-ons, and purchasing global power-ups. There are currently twenty-four unlockable characters in the game, each having unique strengths and weaknesses.

RELATED: Most Unique Unlockable Characters

Antonio Belpaese is the only character available to pick at the start of the game, but you will quickly unlock other characters by meeting specific criteria while playing the game. Here are all twenty-four unlockable Vampire Survivors characters ranked.

Updated May 4, 2022, by Matthew Kevin Mitchell: Vampire Survivors have treated players to brand-new content delivered through free patches. These patches have brought 9 additional characters, bringing the total character count to twenty-four! Along with new characters, the patches also brought additional levels, items, and gameplay adjustments. We have added these additional characters as well as adjusted the rank of all characters based on the new content.

24 Toastie

Toastie From Vampire Survivors

To unlock Toastie, you will need to defeat the Stalker or Drowner enemies. Toastie will show up on the bottom right-hand side of the screen once you have defeated one of these enemies. When you see him appear, press the down arrow and enter the keys at the same time. A sound will play, letting you know Toastie has been unlocked.

Toastie’s passive gives him -10% Might, -10% Area, -10% Duration, -50% Speed, -99 Max health, +10% Cooldown, +20% MoveSpeed and +100% Luck. Toastie also gains additional Max health, Armor, and Luck at specific levels.

23 Poe Ratcho

Poe From Vampire Survivors

Poe suffers from having a weak passive ability and starting weapon. His passive ability is a twenty-five radius increase to item pickups, which you can duplicate by using the Attractorb item, and the Magnet power-up increase to better effect.

His starting weapon is Garlic which is good at the beginning of a level but quickly becomes less effective when you reach mid-game. Getting Garlic to level seven is also how you unlock Poe in the first place.

22 Exdash Exiviiq

Exdash From Vampire Survivors

Exdash is a secret character you can unlock by quickly (you must be lightning-fast) typing x-x1viiq on either the main menu or the credit screens. You should not use Exdash to complete runs like other characters because of his stat penalties.

Exdash has penalties to the following stats: health, movement, speed, damage, area of effect, projectiles, skill duration, and cooldowns. Exdash provides you with a challenge while you use the 100 percent luck stat increase to find additional treasure. Use a Laurel to provide tankiness for extra survivability. His starting weapon is Ebony Wings, a bird that circles the player and sends out projectiles in a zone.

21 Bianca Ramba

Ramba From Vampire Survivors

Ramba's passive ability, an extra projectile every twenty levels (for a maximum of three total projectiles), and stats are the same as other increase in projectiles characters: O'Sole, Cavallo, and Mortaccio. Ramba has the worst starting weapon out of all the increase in projectiles characters because of the time to fire, the damage, and bounce limitations. You should pair this passive with the Duplicator item because it turns him into an absolute projectile master. The Duplicator is unlocked when you get the Magic Wand to level 7. It has two levels which both affect the number of projectiles a weapon is able to fire.

20 O'Sole Meeo

O'Sole From Vampire Survivors

O'Sole's passive ability, an extra projectile every twenty levels (for a maximum of three total projectiles), and stats are the same as other increase in projectiles characters: Ramba, Cavallo, and Mortaccio. His weapon is extremely awkward to control because you can only fire it from behind him.

RELATED: Best Games With Intentionally Awkward Controls

This limitation puts him lower on the list just like Ramba. You can type "pet" once per round to summon healing hearts. You should pair this passive with the Duplicator item because it turns him into an absolute projectile master. The Duplicator is unlocked when you get the Magic Wand to level 7. It has two levels which both affect the number of projectiles a weapon is able to fire.

19 Gennaro Belpaese

Gennaro From Vampire Survivors

Gennaro’s passive gives an extra projectile to all relevant weapons, making them effective at taking out groups. This does not scale like Cavallo, Mortaccio’s, O'Sole's, or Ramba's passive ability does, so he is a slightly less useful character than those four. You want to pair his passive ability with the Duplicator item to add additional projectiles. Gennaro’s starting weapon is a knife that is fired as a projectile toward his movement.

18 Lama Ladonna

Lama From Vampire Survivors

Lama starts with an additional 10 percent in movement speed, max health, might, and curse. He also earns an additional 5 percent in those stats every 10 levels to a maximum of 30 percent at level forty.

His starting weapon is the Axe which is thrown above the character arcing at the nearest enemies. He has a higher skill requirement because of his curse passive and starting, which makes him difficult to play initially, but will make him a very satisfying character to master. If you are going for challenges like high kill runs, he is probably the second-best character on this list (we are ranking for normal playthrough though).

17 Antonio Belpaese

Antonio From Vampire Survivors

Antonio is the first character available to you when you begin the game. His passive ability gives him 10 percent more damage every 10 levels up to a maximum of 50 percent. He also starts with +1 Armor and +20 Max Health. These passives will help you survive and unlock other characters.

Where he struggles, though, is with his starting weapon. The whip is one of the worst weapons in the game, which is why he is so low on this list. You should avoid using Antonio once you progress further into the game and unlock other characters because they are just simply more effective.

16 Suor Clerici

Clerici From Vampire Survivors

Suor’s passive ability provides her with a half a second increase to her hit point regeneration plus an additional 50 maximum health. This may seem like a lot, but characters quickly lose their health due to the mechanics of the game.

To combat this, Suor also starts with 400 percent to her area of effect that goes down by 100 percent at every level gain. Her weapon is Santa Water, which calls bottles of holy water from the sky, causing AOE damage. Stand inside of Santa Water to protect yourself from enemies.

15 Imelda Belpaese

Imelda From Vampire Survivors

Imelda’s passive ability allows her to gain 10 percent additional Growth (experience) every 5 levels up to a maximum of 30 percent. Her starting weapon is a magic wand that auto-targets the nearest enemy. Both mean that you will level quickly while surviving much easier.

There is no downside to Imelda, and she is easily unlocked, making her the best starting character until you can transition into Mortaccio or Yata, who edge her out in ability.

14 Porta Ladonna

Porta From Vampire Survivors

Porta’s passive ability provides her with an additional 30 percent increase in her area of attack. He also gains a 90 percent reduced cooldown that decreases by 30 percent per level, disappearing totally at level four.

His starting weapon is the Lightning Ring, which is slow and has inconsistent results because of how it randomly strikes. One trick you can do to make Porta easier to play is to leave experience crystals alone until there are enough to get you multiple levels.

13 Pasqualina Belpaese

Pasqualina From Vampire Survivors

Paqualina’s passive ability provides a starting 10 percent speed. Her passive also increases her projectile speed every five levels up to a maximum of 30 percent. Take note that her start 10 percent speed does not count towards the level increase cap.

Her starting weapon is the Runetracer, which can provide you with inconsistent results as it reacts to hitting the boundary of the play area Two other weapons that work well with Pasqualina’s passive ability are the Death Spiral and the King Bible. While Pasuqalina is a great character Giovanna does everything she does (except the starting weapon) but better, so you'd be better suited to use her when you unlock her.

12 MissingN▯

missingN▯ From Vampire Survivors

The only way to unlock MissingN▯ is to edit a game file by following these instructions at your own risk.

MissingN▯'s stats are randomized with every opening of the character selection screen with the final stat comprising PowerUps and the base state.

There are a couple of very fun scenarios that are possible based on these randomizations:

  • MissingN▯ becomes invincible if his Max health is negative
  • MissingN▯ controls are inverted if his MoveSpeed is below -100%
  • MissingN▯ can no longer gain experience if his Growth stat is -100 or lower
  • MissingN▯ will cause no enemies to appear if his Curse is -100% or lower

11 Yatta Cavallo

Cavallo From Vampire Survivors

Cavallo's passive ability, an extra projectile every twenty levels (for a maximum of three total projectiles), and stats are the same as other increase in projectiles characters: Ramba, O'Sole, and Mortaccio. Cavallo is lower than Mortaccio because of the cherry bomb visually cluttering the game, which can cause frame rate issues depending on your system. You should pair this passive with the Duplicator item because it turns him into an absolute projectile master. The Duplicator is unlocked when you get the Magic Wand to level 7. It has two levels which both affect the number of projectiles a weapon is able to fire.

If you prefer to play as a panda or have an excellent system, Yatta is a suitable alternative. And really, who wouldn't prefer to play as a panda?

10 Giovanna Grana

Giovanna From Vampire Survivors

Giovanna starts with an additional twenty percent movement speed. Her passive provides with +1% bonus Projectile Speed at every level with no cap to this bonus. The one downside to Giovanna is her starting weapon, Gatti Amari, being extremely difficult during the beginning stages of the game. Weapons like the Bone, Runetracer, and La Borra are very effective at high levels due to her passive not being capped, and choosing one of these weapons as soon as possible is recommended.

9 Krochi Freetto

Krochi From Vampire Survivors

Krochi’s passive ability gives him one additional revive at 50 percent health with an additional revival at level 33. With all the new changes you can now have up to 8 revives with him, which is pretty insane! He also starts with an additional 30 percent movement speed.

His starting weapon is the Cross which hits the closest enemy and then travels indefinitely until it goes offscreen. You can only improve his weapon damage by purchasing power-ups, but an upgrade to the Cross can help mitigate this restriction. This is one of the best starting weapons in the game because of its cleaving abilities and the fact its damage doesn't fall off too much if you don't upgrade it.

8 Mortaccio

Mortaccio From Vampire Survivors

Mortaccio is one of the easiest champions for new players to win runs in Vampire Survivors because of his passive ability, which gives him an extra projectile every twenty levels (for a maximum of three total projectiles).

The passive is retroactive, so any items you have already acquired will gain an additional projectile. His starting weapon is a Bone -he is a skeleton after all - that is shot as a projectile that bounces off of enemies when struck. It is relatively weak early in the game, but scales well later into the game.

RELATED: Best Skeletons From Video Game History

You should pair this passive with the Duplicator item because it turns him into an absolute projectile master. The Duplicator is unlocked when you get the Magic Wand to level 7. It has two levels which both affect the number of projectiles a weapon is able to fire.

7 Dommario

Dommario From Vampire Survivors

Dommario’s passive grant’s him a 40 percent increase in the speed and duration of his weapon’s projectiles. In return, he takes a negative 40 percent penalty for his movement speed. You can improve his movement speed using the Wings item and the Move Speed power-up to combat this negative.

His weapon is the King Bible, which spins around him, damaging and knocking back enemies. King Bible becomes one of the most powerful weapons in the game after you upgrade it because of its zoning capabilities.

6 Mask Of The Red Death

Red Death From Vampire Survivors

You have to kill Death, one of the hardest enemies in the game, to unlock him which may diminish his usefulness. Mask of the Red Death’s passive ability provides him with a 100 percent increase in movement speed, an additional 255 health points, and 20 percent additional might. His starting weapon is the Death Spiral, which is an evolved Axe that shoots out nine scythes around the player.

5 Christine Davain

Christine From Vampire Survivors

Christine starts the game at level 2, and we recommend you choose a strong secondary weapon like Rune Tracer or Song of Mana to mitigate the Pentagram's early weaknesses. Her passive provides her with -25% Cooldown, -35% Might, -50 Max Health, and +30% MoveSpeed. Christine has the most cooldown out of any character in the game when using the Tome item. The Pentagram isn’t as strong as Arca’s Fire Wand, which is why she is behind Arca in our rankings.
