Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York is a visual novel that uses elements from the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop game, allowing the different characters to call upon the powers of their blood to overcome their enemies.

The three playable characters in Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York have access to a number of different Disciplines, each of which allows them to influence the world around them. Unlike the tabletop game, the player only has access to the Discipline as a whole and not individual powers that are broken down by level. Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York doesn't always make it clear how the Disciplines work, so here's a handy guide that breaks them all down.

Auspex

Auspex is a Discipline that grants the vampire supernatural senses, allowing them to see things that mortals cannot. A vampire who uses Auspex can track people in a crowd, see in the dark, and even potentially see through the Disciplines used by enemies that obscure them from sight.

Celerity

The Discipline of Celerity grants the vampire supernatural speed, allowing them to cross great distances in a blink of an eye, easily dodge the blows of their enemies, and catch up to fleeing targets before they can even manage to scramble a few feet away.

Celerity is one of the most terrifying Disciplines in the Vampire The Masquerade tabletop game, as the ability to act before an enemy can be incredibly deadly when dealing with vampires and their multitude of weaknesses.

Dominate

The Discipline of Dominate allows vampires to command the minds of enemies, so long as they are able to look them in the eye. There are some limits to what Dominate can accomplish, as it can be difficult to cause people to perform actions that will directly lead to physical harm, but Dominate can stop an enemy in their tracks, cause mortals to forget recent events, and make the unwary to spill their secrets.

Fortitude

The vampires in Vampire: The Masquerade have access to a number of abilities that are akin to superpowers, but they also have plenty of weaknesses that can quickly result in their death. Vampires can easily be killed by sunlight and fire, while the other supernatural beings that stalk the night have access to powers and weapons that will annihilate a Kindred where they stand.

The Discipline of Fortitude allows a vampire to survive far more damage than they could normally handle. Fortitude allows vampires to shrug off bullets, stroll through an inferno, and laugh at baseball shots to the head.

Potence

Firearms are the weapon of choice in the modern world, but regular bullets aren't as effective against vampires as they are against mortals. As such, there are many vampires who still favor melee weapons, which are often backed-up by the incredible strength offered by the Potence Discipline.

Potence grants the vampire the power of super strength, allowing them to smash through doors, bend metal bars, and punch a hole straight through the face of their enemy.

Presence

All of the playable characters in Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York have access to the power of Presence, which offers them supernatural allure, regardless of their appearance or attitude.

A vampire who uses the Discipline of Presence will suddenly become the most interesting or most fearsome person in the room. Dominate might force enemies to give up their secrets, but Presence convinces them that they should divulge their knowledge, just because they like you so much.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS on December 11, 2019. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in Q1 2020.
