It's been posited (mostly in various martial arts movies) that strength doesn't mean much if you don't have the skill to back it up. That's why you always see skinny martial arts master-type people effortlessly laying out gigantic combatants with masterful strikes and flips. However, there is a bit of a cap on that.

There is a certain threshold of strength that, when passed, you can effectively substitute for skill, at least as long as that strength lasts. There are many characters in games that don't utilize any particular fighting style, they're just so outrageously strong that they can just sort of hurl themselves in the general direction of their opponents and let nature take its course. Of course, even in these situations, skill often still wins out in the end.

10 Rodin - Bayonetta Series

Father Rodin in Bayonetta (left) and Demon Rodin in Bayonetta 2 (right)

Prior to becoming a Fallen Angel, Rodin was unquestionably one of the most powerful beings in all of Paradiso. No other Angel, not even the members of the Auditio, could lay a finger on him. Even after losing his heavenly abilities and embracing his demonic side, this still holds more or less true.

Rodin's very presence has so much heavenly/infernal might behind it that all he really has to do is swing his arm in a straight line to send an opponent flying. Even when he decides to get serious, there's no particular rhythm to his techniques. He flies quickly, stomps around, and pounds the ground; it's his latent strength that makes that flailing potentially world-ending.

9 Asura - Asura's Wrath

Ending Asuras Wrath

Asura's entire existence, at least as far as the story of Asura's Wrath goes, is defined by his bottomless wellspring of rage and hatred. Whenever he's confronted with an opponent he can't just beat into the ground, he doesn't work to refine his style at all, he just beats them harder.

Asura's fighting style, such as it is, can be summed up with the following flowchart: Is it still standing? Punch it. Is it still standing? Punch it harder. Is it still standing? Punch it harder with more fists. So on and so forth. He is genuinely so angry that this approach works for pretty much the entire game.

8 Urizen - Devil May Cry 5

When Vergil uses the power of the Yamato to separate his human and demonic halves from one another, the resulting demon, Urizen, is a mass of unfettered demonic might. He's made up of all the best genetic qualities Vergil ever inherited from Sparda, from overwhelming strength to natural resilience.

However, there's a bit of a problem here: Vergil's greatest asset is his swordsmanship, and that was passed on to V. As such, Urizen doesn't fight with any established style, mostly just swinging his body around and letting physics do the work. He is undoubtedly strong, but against Dante's freewheeling combat style, he simply couldn't keep up.

7 Godrick The Grafted - Elden Ring

Godrick the Grafted Elden Ring

Godrick has always had a bit of an inferiority complex, comparing himself to the more powerful members of his godly family. He's not especially skilled with weaponry or magic compared to the likes of Radahn or Rennala, so to make up the difference, he went for mass instead. Godrick grafts powerful warriors and creatures onto himself to increase his size and muscle, and that certainly allows him to dispatch regular soldiers with little difficulty.

Unfortunately, all the grafting in the world can't make up for his general lack of combat sense. His swings are powerful enough to whip up whirlwinds, and his leaps are heavy enough to split the earth, but that's all he really has in his playbook. Even grafting the entire head of a dragon onto his arm doesn't change the fact that, despite his immense strength, he just doesn't know how to use it.

6 Zant - The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

When he's first shown in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Zant is portrayed as a calm, calculating individual with unknown depths to his dark abilities. Indeed, with his powerful Twili magic, he can conjure forth all manner of caustic attacks, not to mention subject those around him to forceful, unpleasant polymorphing.

Later, though, we learn that all of that power came mostly from Ganondorf. On his own, Zant isn't actually that impressive a combatant. His magic is powerful, and it gives him some flexibility in a fight, letting him change in size and conjure illusions. When it's used up, and he's forced to rely on swordsmanship, though, his style can be likened to a child throwing a temper tantrum rather than any real skill.

5 Senator Steven Armstrong - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Armstrong smoking a cigar

As a soldier in the United States Navy in his younger years, Armstrong likely received some baseline combat training, though he never actually saw active deployment during his stint. This is probably why, when the time comes to fight with Raiden, he relies almost exclusively on his nanomachine-enhanced body rather than something like army grappling.

Thanks to his nanomachines' ability to harden in response to trauma, as well as his ability to draw kinetic energy from his surroundings, Armstrong is a devastatingly strong individual. Certainly, without the aid of Jetstream Sam's Murasama, Raiden can't even scratch him. However, Armstrong's fighting style more closely resembles football tackles than actual fighting. Tackles aren't a fighting style, which is why Raiden was ultimately able to beat him. Even before that, he was almost bested by Sam, only winning at the last minute with a lucky shot.

4 Jason Vorhees - Mortal Kombat X

Jason Voorhees Slasher Variation - Mortal Kombat X

Anyone with even a passing interest in classic horror movies knows about Jason Vorhees's unstoppable nature. It's kind of his entire shtick. In both his many movies and his cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat X, Jason doesn't operate based on any particular kind of skill. He's a directionless revenant, after all; the guy probably can't spell 'fighting style,' let alone use one.

Jason's undead physiology allows him to effortlessly no-sell attacks that would injure or knock down typical kombatants. If a normal person tried to fight as Jason does, they'd just hurt themselves, but because he can't be hurt, he can just walk through a knuckle sandwich like it were a light breeze.

3 Infinite - Sonic Forces

Infinite in Sonic Forces

Utilizing the power of the mysterious Phantom Ruby, Infinite is a borderline godlike individual. He can conjure wide-scale illusions, create scarily-accurate duplicates of any living being, and can easily shrug off any feeble attempts to resist him.

Infinite's power comes with a big asterisk, however: the Phantom Ruby is the source of all of his powers. This means if the Ruby is inhibited in any way or otherwise removed from his possession, he becomes a completely average guy. He has no combat skill, no enhanced strength, and he's not even that smart. Without the Phantom Ruby, Infinite is quite finite.

2 Taiga Saejima - Yakuza Series

yakuza 5 taiga sajeima model

All the playable characters in the Yakuza series are some degree of meathead, able to perform fantastic feats of strength and violence. Even compared to the likes of Kiryu and Majima, though, Taiga Saejima is a standout due to just how strong he is. For one thing, he's able to rip traffic signs right out of concrete, a feat that even Kiryu has never pulled off.

Because of this incredible strength, Saejima's fighting style mostly revolves around hurling himself at foes, some fairly basic wrestling holds, and the classic haymaker punch. It's the same kind of style that just about any generic yakuza thug would use, but thanks to Saejima's strength, it's escalated to a class all on its own.

1 Taokaka - BlazBlue Series

Taokaka greeting village children in BlazeBlue

As a member of the Kaka Clan and a genetic descendant of Jubei, Taokaka possesses naturally keen combat instincts and great strength besides. Despite her relatively small frame, he punches and kicks pack immense power, and her natural affinity for spellcraft allows her to conjure up mystifying abilities like conjured blades and duplication.

However, all of these abilities are exclusively instinctual. Tao doesn't actually have any idea what she's doing, her body just knows how to fight and use magic. This is why her fighting style is so speedy and animalistic; in a straight fistfight with a skilled opponent, she'd probably lose.
