It’s that time of year again — you’re probably thinking about who you need to get Christmas gifts for, what you should get them, and how much your budget will allow you to spend. These characters, though? They’re not thinking about it all that much. Sure, Christmas gifts might be on their mind, and they know they need to get them, but they don’t need to get them right now.

There are 25 days in December to get it all sorted, after all. That's a lot of days. No need to rush, right? But, as we all know, Christmas creeps up on you, and suddenly it’s only a few days away, and you’ve not made a dent in your shopping list. It might happen to us all one year out of many, but for these characters, it’s definitely a regular occurrence.

7 Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog)

Being able to travel at the speed of light, Sonic laughs in the face of those starting their Christmas shopping at the beginning of December. A whole month for a measly shopping list? He doesn’t have time for that. He can do it all in seconds, that’s for sure.

Thing is, if you head to the shops on Christmas Eve, there’s not exactly going to be great things left. Sonic’s friends will have to do with… whatever it is that Sonic manages to scrape together at the last minute.

6 Yuffie (Final Fantasy 7)

Yuffie Kisaragi in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

When you meet her in Final Fantasy 7, one of the first things that Yuffie does is steal all of your belongings. Not exactly exuding gift-giving vibes here, Yuffie. She gives you it all back eventually though, but I get the feeling she has the same approach to gift-giving.

Ever receive a gift that you don’t particularly like, but don’t have a receipt for, so you can’t return it? You could find a use for it yourself, or, you could re-gift it to someone else. Yuffie, no doubt, thinks this is a great idea. You’d have to watch out though — you might just end up with one of your own belongings as a gift from her.

5 Beat (The World Ends With You)

Beat with Rhyme in his arms in The World Ends With You.

One thing you have to know about Beat: he loves his little sister, Rhyme. He would do anything for her, including throwing himself in front of a moving vehicle to save her life. He’d have all of her Christmas presents sorted before December 1 even hits: planned, ordered and wrapped. Everyone else though? That’s a different story.

Most of his budget would already be spent on Rhyme’s gifts, so he wouldn’t have much to work with. He’d leave that as a problem for future Beat. Unfortunately, future Beat doesn’t know what to do with a bunch of spare change either.

4 Rover (Animal Crossing)

Rover approaching you on the train in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Rover is a recurring character in the Animal Crossing series, and most notably is the first animal you meet in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. When you find him on the train, he asks you about yourself, but he also asks you what the current date is, and where the train is headed. Doesn’t sound like a particularly well-organised guy to me.

Soon after moving into your town, you receive a mysterious letter from someone who was supposed to be the new mayor, not you. With Rover heading to the same place as you, it’s highly likely it was him. Someone who wiggles out of responsibility that much can’t have their Christmas shopping as a priority on their to-do list — if they have one at all.

3 Blue (Pokemon)

Blue Pokemon

Blue does not have time for Christmas shopping. Whenever he’s not battling, he’s training his Pokemon for future battles. Buying gifts, when he could be nailing down his next strategy to beat Red? I don’t think so.

That being said, Red and Blue are close rivals, even going on their honeymoon, ahem, a holiday, together to Alola. When the big day is approaching, Red would pick up Blue’s slack and sort his Christmas shopping out for him.

2 Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles)

Despite being the heir to the Monado, and basically, well, saving the world, Shulk doesn’t give the impression that he’d be organised for Christmas. Before setting out on his journey to destroy the Mechon, he spent most of his time inside, studying the Monado and working on things in the workshop.

While Shulk’s homing in on the latest thing he’s noticed about the Monado, time keeps on passing by. December 25 would be near before he knows it, without a single gift crossed off the shopping list. Luckily, he has a talent for fixing things, so no doubt he could offer his services as a gift, and save himself from a few choice words from Fiora.

1 Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

Sora in Kingdom Hearts 3.

One of Sora’s main personality traits is the fact that he loves his friends dearly, so naturally, he would also love to buy them Christmas gifts. He’d think about all the amazing things he could get them — the perfect gifts that absolutely no one else has ever thought of. The problem is, Sora isn’t exactly the organised type. Does he know what day it is? Probably not.

He’d think of his gifts for Riku, Kairi, Donald, Goofy, and everyone else he’s met so far, but that’s about as far as he’d get. December 23rd rolls around, and Kairi asks him if he wants to spend Christmas Eve with her and Riku. Sora immediately enters panic mode. “Christmas Eve is tomorrow?!” Off to the shops, he goes.
