Voice acting might not seem much compared to regular acting, but it has so much to offer that it is just as impactful as an on-screen actor’s performance. Video games nowadays have evolved from cheesy voice acting to impeccable voice acting. The actors off-screen give out their all in order to create a memorable performance that will be remembered for the years to come.

While most voice acting comes from actors that mostly focus on video games, cartoons, or anime, we usually do not get a lot of famous on-screen actors who would lend their voices for a video game. It would not be a surprise if fans of a certain actor would only play the game because they are in it, but for the most part, they do a fantastic job in their performances in a video game role.

Sometimes the actors we hear are ones that are incredibly famous for their successful TV show or movie franchise and hearing their voices brings a smile on our faces. Heck, some might have been in a band before they did a video game role! Some actors would reprise their roles in a video game that is based on a TV show or movie, but original characters from their respective video games truly shine the best.

Chances are that your jaws will drop on the floor when you see these actors who have done voice work for video games. Here are twenty-five actors you didn’t know who voiced video game characters!

25 Father Figure

When it comes to movies that Gary Oldman has been in, he has been in everything. By everything, we mean movies like the Nolan Batman trilogy and the Harry Potter series. Gary Oldman has even voiced for video games, especially Spyro the Dragon.

He plays the father figure of Spyro, Ignitus.

We honestly are surprised that an incredibly diverse actor like him has voiced in video games. His resume is incredible and we would love to see him voice act in video games once more.

24 Keeping It Subtle

Willem Dafoe is an incredibly talented actor with his famous works being Streets of Fire, Spider-Man, and so much more. He also lent his voice in several projects such as Finding Nemo, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Death Note. Along with another person who will appear on this list, he has voiced and done motion capture for the video game Beyond: Two Souls. The fact that it earned him a nomination for Best Voice Actor at the Spike Video Game Awards shows how incredible his performance is.

23 Following The Samurai Way

This one might be a bit strange as we can see who the actor is, but regardless, George Takei’s performance from Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 might be a surprise to some fans. However, he still does some voice acting in gameplay so he got the best of both worlds in acting and voice-over work. From being in the classic Star Trek to narrating a certain adult novel that became a meme, George is simply one actor we had to include on here.

22 Awesome Casting Choice

via: fr.konami.wikia.com

Look what we got here, it seems that another Star Trek actor has done voice acting for a video game. Sir Patrick Stewart has one of the most relaxing and recognizable voices in all of media. Other than Jean-Luc Picard, he has portrayed Charles Xavier from the X-Men franchise.

His video game role is none other than Zobek from Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and its sequel.

Being a boss in the game and having him voice a villain is one of the greatest treats that Castlevania fans can ever get.

21 Mystical Voice

Game of Thrones actor Sean Bean has to be one of the coolest people on the planet. Keeping the fantasy genre in him, Sean has voiced Martin Septim from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Unfortunately, his character can end up perishing, just like his other famous film and TV roles.

Sean is known for being that one actor whose characters are written off to perish, but it helps keep the memes alive. However, he has done other video game roles where the characters do survive.

20 Growing Up With The Role

Kingdom Hearts will always be a game that people will look back upon with fond memories. What makes the game so special is that the voice actors grow up alongside their characters, especially Haley Joel Osment.

His role as Sora literally developed overtime as he did.

The fact that in four years from now, Haley will have voiced Sora for twenty years. That is a long time, and since he has been acting for most of his life with movies like The Sixth Sense on his resume, he still has so many years of acting ahead of him.

19 Corrupted At Best

Ray Liotta might be known more for his on-screen acting, but his voice acting roles have landed him in some of the craziest ever. He voiced the protagonist Tommy Vercetti from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Apparently, he had been a very difficult person to work with whenever he would record lines for the game.

Even so, having an actor like him even star in a video game is an amazing opportunity. It’s just a shame that sometimes Hollywood and video games don’t mix well together.

18 Fantasy To Sci-Fi

via: vg247.com

Can’t get enough of Game of Thrones actors voicing in video games? Why not have Peter Dinklage as Ghost from Destiny. It might seem like a cash grab to have a famous actor like him be in a hyped up new video game series, but Peter actually did a “unique” job as his character.

Even though Ghost would later have Nolan North do the voice, what made Ghost memorable is the fact that Peter knew how absurd some of his lines are and was really blunt with them. It might not be meant to be, but Peter left an impact.

17 Illusive Voice

via: masseffect.wikia.com

One of the surprising moments in the Mass Effect series is the mastermind of villainy known as the Illusive Man. Even though he only appeared in the second and third games, he is just one bad man.

On top of it, Martin Sheen is the voice behind this dastardly villain!

For a man who has been acting for half a century really gave it his all in his performance as the Illusive Man. Honestly, nothing but huge props to this talented man.

16 Honored To Play

There might be times where one thing does not simply fit well with another, but when they come together, it manages to be extremely fascinating. Dishonored has Chloë Grace Moretz of all people voice Emily in the first game. It has to be one of Chloë’s most unexpected roles in her career, and yet she managed to do a fantastic job. Judging by her other known roles in movies or TV shows, her role as Emily has to be her most impressive.

15 Feels Like A Movie

While there are some amazing actors that have the privilege to voice in a video game, sometimes it does not go exactly as planned. Christopher Walken has voiced in True Crime: Streets of LA, and even though we can recognize his voice, the acting can get a bit off at times.

Not to say we are discrediting Christopher, because having him be in a video game is more than epic. It has been over ten years since he has last done a video game, so it should be time for him to come back.

14 Adorable Charm

via finalfantasyunion.com

One of the most beloved actresses fans in the early 2000s remember would have to be Mae Whitman. Her voice is so iconic and charming that any character she acts or voices has something to remember by. There is Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender, who is a strong and competent character, to name one.

She would eventually voice Yuffie from Final Fantasy VII in the game Kingdom Hearts II. Yuffie is carefree, yet cocky. To have her being voiced by Mae just makes this ninja cuter!

13 Taking The Torch For A Bit

via: polygon.com

Kiefer Sutherland has done many roles for shows such as 24 and Touch, but there are a couple roles that would help give him recognition. Becoming Venom Snake and Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid V was something that Kiefer did fantastically despite not having that many lines compared to the original voice actor David Hayter. While we are glad that David took the role back in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, having Kiefer take up the torch for a bit was a decent choice.

12 Destined To Voice

via: fallout.wikia.com

Legendary actors taking on video game voice roles sounds like a dream come true and with Liam Neeson being in Fallout 3, that is an outstanding fact. Being Lone Wanderer’s father, hearing his Irish voice grace our ears is one of the best parts of this game.

Liam certainly knows how to cater to geeks like us.

Even though this isn’t the only time Liam has done voice acting, we hope that one day in the future he can do more video game roles like this.

11 Secret Gaming Fan

Mila Kunis has diversity in anything she gets her hands on. Despite being absolutely beautiful, she voices the ugly and underappreciated Meg from Family Guy and has a special place in the hearts of That 70’s Show fans. Strangely enough, she has provided voice work for Saints Row!

She voiced Tanya Winters, an antagonist from the gang Vice Kings. Even though she only voiced her in the first game, it is cool to see Mila have some range in acting.

10 Smart Word Play

That’s one Family Guy alumni down, so here is Seth Green! He is extremely talented in comedy and his show Robot Chicken displays how spoof is done right. For his roles in video games, one match made in heaven is definitely Joker from the Mass Effect series.

Seth gives off a cool approach to the character as well as being a model, though his face is entirely different from his character. Also, if making a reference to one of his works in a video game isn’t awesome, we don’t know what is.

9 Simple And Clean

via: thenewheroines.wordpress.com

Hayden Panettiere has been acting before she even turned one. She has become an acting darling who has worked with Disney and has come a long way ever since. On-screen, she has appeared in works like Remember the Titans, Nashville, and Heroes.

When it comes to voice acting for video games, she became the lovable and sweet Kairi from Kingdom Hearts. Not only that, she also voiced Sam from Until Dawn, who also became a model for the character. We are sad she didn’t reprise her role in Kingdom Hearts III, but when she does again, we’ll welcome her back.

8 She Looks Familiar...

via: polygon.com

It takes a lot of effort when an actor does voice acting in a video game, but motion capture is a huge bonus. Ellen Page does that for the 2013 video game Beyond: Two Souls. Best known for her breakout role in Juno, Ellen is very diverse in her roles and she can rock whatever part she is given. With her performance in Beyond: Two Souls being fantastic, it would be nice to see Ellen pick up some more roles for video games.

7 Smooth Baritone Voice

via: saintsrow.wikia.com

This man is just destined to do voice work even though he has done some on-screen acting. Keith David has made a name for himself in the movie The Thing, and in TV shows, you might have heard his voice in shows like Gargoyles.

In video games, he has a huge catalog.

Not only did he appear in the Halo series, but he also appeared in the Mass Effect series. He also made an appearance in the Saints Row series, voicing Julius Little in the first two games and came back as himself. He certainly has come full circle!

6 A Different Role For The Princess

via: assassinscreed.wikia.com

Kristen Bell has the appearance of a bubbly and kind lady, so for her to be cast as Anna from Disney’s Frozen not only is fantastic but would make her a rising actress. Before she would become the voice actress for the Disney Princess, she voiced Lucy from the Assassin’s Creed series.

Let us all have a moment of silence for her character.

Even if Lucy had her allegiance to the Templars, she has shown compassion for Desmond and his companions. Kristen just nails her character perfectly.
