Every wasteland run in Void Terrarium 2 spurs the creation of a new Robbie. Excluding craft bonus stats, you'll begin again at square one and acquire new passive skills as you pass each new Level. This is one of VT2's unique characteristics that solidly establish it as a roguelike game.

Since you must choose between two passive skills at each Level-Up, decision-making becomes crucial. For instance, is it better to take the attack skill now or pick up that defense booster while your HP capacity is low? Every player must choose based on their personal strategy. As for us, we find ourselves selecting these skills whenever they come our way.

Stabby Power 1

  • Rank: 🟩⬛⬛⬛⬛(1/5)
  • Effect: Increase critical damage bonus by 20%.

Why We Love Stabby Power 1

Early offensive buffs always make low-level gameplay less difficult. Therefore, Stabby Power 1 is always our first choice. After all, increased critical damage means more downed enemies, thus more Level rising, leading to more nifty passive skills!

Endurance 1

  • Rank: 🟩⬛⬛⬛⬛(1/5)
  • Effect: Increase DEF by 20% when HP is 50% or lower.

Why We Love Endurance 1

Robbie is most vulnerable near the beginning of an expedition when his HP and DEF stats are low. Therefore, utilizing a skill like Endurance 1 early in this journey is essential. Then you can focus on picking up the big skills later in your run.

Bag Augment 2

  • Rank: 🟩🟩⬛⬛⬛(2/5)
  • Effect: Increase inventory by 3.

Why We Love Bag Augment 2

There's never enough inventory space when we go on an expedition with Robbie. So, unfortunately, whenever we come across that next shiny item, we're lost in bouts of tough decision-making. After all, we must determine what's worth giving up, what's worth saving, and what we can use now to make extra space. It's exhausting. So, increased inventory space is always welcome! There's a Bag Augment 1 as well. However, we think the three-space payoff of Bag Augment 2 is better.

Second Wind

  • Rank: 🟩🟩⬛⬛⬛(2/5)
  • Effect: Greatly increase HP regen each turn when HP is 50% or lower.

Why We Love Second Wind

In a nutshell, VT2 is a game of endurance. You can have all the best weapons and still have a run cut short by one too many enemy attacks. Thankfully, excellent passive skills like Second Wind give Robbie a fighting chance. Plus, higher HP regen rates will save EN in the long run.

Weapon Force

  • Rank: 🟩🟩🟩⬛⬛(3/5)
  • Effect: Increase ATK by 1 for every weapon in your inventory.

Why We Love Weapon Force

If you haven't noticed, we're item hoarders here at TG. And in VT2, hoarding can become a strength or weakness depending on how and when you use your items. Plus, with so many weapons, we often played the swap game in pursuit of the best ATK stats and active skills. Thankfully, Weapon Force rewards us for our rampant weapon stashing with increased offensive buffs!

Shield Force

  • Rank: 🟩🟩🟩⬛⬛(3/5)
  • Effect: Increase DEF by 1 for every shield in your inventory.

Why We Love Shield Force

Shield Force is identical to Weapon Force, but for shields. So if you like holding on to shield items for too long and need a defensive buff, this passive skill is precisely what you need!

Hedge-Havoc

Hedge-Havoc, as displayed in Void Terrarium 2's Skill Archive.
  • Rank: 🟩🟩🟩⬛⬛(3/5)
  • Effect: Deal up to 50% of damage taken back to the attacking enemy. The more enemies in the room, the more damage dealt.

Why We Love Hedge-Havoc

Imagine if someone got slapped in the face whenever they laid a finger on you. That's the beauty of Headge-Havoc! We love this skill because it helps level the playing field between yourself and enemies by giving half the damage you take. In addition, since Hedge-Havoc's effects increase with the number of enemies in a room, it's the perfect skill to have when entering a monster house.

Cornered Rat

Cornered Rat, as displayed in Void Terrarium 2's Skill Archive.
  • Rank: 🟩🟩🟩🟩⬛(4/5)
  • Effect: End cooldowns of active skills when HP is 25% or lower.

Why We Love Cornered Rat

Active skills like Lance, Block, and Pull are lifesavers in formidable battles. But, unfortunately, the cooldown time between uses makes these skills somewhat unreliable. Fortunately, Cornered Rat eliminates this cooldown period when your HP is super low, allowing you to diffuse enemy pressure. The only caveat is that all those skill uses will deplete your EN. So make sure you have a recovery plan.

Free Throw

Free Throw, as displayed in Void Terrarium 2's Skill Archive.
  • Rank: 🟩🟩🟩🟩⬛(4/5)
  • Effect: Throw items onto any tile. Max throwing range of six tiles.

Why We Love Free Throw

Ranged weapons are a significant resource in VT2 since they can take out enemies before they can touch you. However, positioning yourself in line with an enemy to use a Grenade or Smoke Bomb is a drag. And if your enemy moves out of range on their turn, then your movement was for naught. Therefore, we love Free Throw because it gives us a complete 360º throwing range, albeit over a meager six-tile expanse.

Bit 2

Bit 2, as displayed in Void Terrarium 2's Skill Archive.
  • Rank: 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩(5/5)
  • Effect: Inflict damage to enemies within a one-tile radius every turn

Why We Love Bit 2

Bit 2 is equivalent to skills like Garlic in Vampire Survivors. It's an equally effective and satisfying skill that punishes any foe approaching you. Bit 2 is a killer passive skill for high-level play that serves best in high-pressure situations like monster houses or boss fights. When this skill comes your way, never pass it down!
