EE, which runs the UK's leading mobile network, has partnered with the British Academy Games Awards to celebrate the best games of the year. Fans can now vote for the EE Game of the Year Award, whose nominees include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty: Warzone, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, The Last of Us 2 and VALORANT.

Voting closes at noon on March 22 and the winner will be announced at the BAFTA Games Awards on Thursday 25 March 2021. The shortlist was decided by a panel of leading industry specialists and gaming journalists, which included TheGamer’s Editor-in-Chief Kirk McKeand. The panel, chaired by Dr Jo Twist OBE, chair of the BAFTA Games Committee, was tasked with nominating six games that had the greatest impact on players around the world.

The new EE Game of the Year Award is the only prize voted for by the public at the British Academy Games Awards. Last year's EE Mobile Game of the Year was Activision's Call of Duty: Mobile. Nominees included, Assemble With Care, Dead Man's Phone, Pokémon GO, Tangle Tower and What the Golf?

Emma Baehr, Executive Director of Awards & Content at BAFTA said, “We are delighted to be working with EE once again on the BAFTA Games Awards in 2021, this year working together to bring an exciting new category to the ceremony.

“Games have been an ever-increasing popular art form in supporting and entertaining the nation throughout the lockdown period and we’re looking forward to handing the reigns over to the public to vote for their favourite in the EE Game of the Year Award.”

Last year, the British Academy Games Awards recognized Outer Wilds as Best Game, Observation as Best British Game, Disco Elysium as Best Debut Game, Path of Exile as Best Evolving Game, Outer Wilds as Best Game Design, Apex Legends as Multiplayer Game, Gonzalo Martin as Best Performer in a Leading Role for his role as as Sean Diaz in Life Is Strange 2, and Martti Suosalo as Performer in a Supporting Role for his role as Ahti the Janitor in Control.
