Walmart is telling its employees to remove violent games and shooter imagery from their stores, but they’re still stocking actual guns and ammo.

There was another mass shooting last weekend. Actually, two of them: one in El Paso, Texas, and another in Dayton, Ohio. In total, 31 people were killed and many more dozens were injured.

Following the attacks, US President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Monday to blame video games for both shootings, saying they create a "culture that celebrates violence." However, his statements are not supported by scientific studies on the matter.

But he's the President, so when he speaks, people listen. Some of those people just happen to be in charge of Walmart, which told its employees to take down any displays or advertisements that might promote violent video games.

Freelance writer Kenneth Shepard got his hands on the recent order sent out by Walmart high command. The notice orders all Walmart stores to review their signage and displays that show "violent images or aggressive behavior" and to remove them or turn them off immediately.

"Use your best judgment," the notice continues, and if unsure, "remove the item or turn it off as a precautionary measure."

The goes on to specifically mention violent game displays for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Advertisements or banners for violent games are also getting pulled, and any events promoting combat shooter games are getting canceled.

And the directive doesn't end there. It also advises stores to take down any movies showing violent scenes and to take down any hunting videos in the seasonal department.

The notice was first posted to Twitter before making the rounds on Reddit. Users were quick to point out that there was no mention of actually removing guns or ammunition from stores, which would likely be far more effective in preventing mass shootings.

Vice did an interview with an anonymous Walmart employee who confirmed that the retail giant is still selling guns. "I immediately threw [the notice] away because it’s obviously a way to shift the blame from the real problem regarding the mass shootings. I didn’t get to confirm this yesterday but they aren’t doing anything about the sales of guns and ammo in the store."

Walmart issued a statement saying the changes to their displays are "out of respect for the incidents of the past week, and this action does not reflect a long-term change in our video game assortment."
