Nintendo has announced that Warframe will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the future.

Warframe is a popular free-to-play third-person shooter that is currently available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. You play as a member of a race known as the Tenno, who use robotic suits (the titular Warframes) to wage war against the Grineer and their army of mechanical monsters.

The reviews for Warframe were initially average, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming one of the most played games on Steam.

Warframe has received numerous new content and story upgrades since its release, though the PC version of the game usually gets them first, with the console updates being added later.

The Nintendo Switch port of Warframe is being handled by Panic Room, which is a name that should be familiar to Switch owners. Panic Room is the company behind the impressive Switch ports of Doom and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, both of which proved that the Switch was capable of handling modern games. There really isn't a better choice for a developer for this port than Panic Room.

We have only been given a brief glimpse at the Nintendo Switch port of Warframe and no one has had a chance to play it, which means that it's impossible to say how good the port is at this moment in time.

Panic Room has done some amazing things with games like Doom and Wolfenstein 2, so hopes are high that Warframe can continue this trend. The Switch port of Fortnite has proven that large multi-player games are viable on the system, so there is a good chance that Warframe can live up to the hype.

It's odd that Warframe wasn't mentioned during Nintendo's recent E3 conference, as they were hurting for non-Smash Bros. related material. The presence of a popular free-to-play game would have certainly made the Switch's second-year lineup look a little more impressive. Then again, Nintendo may not have wanted to take the focus away from the Fortnite announcement, even though it had been leaked before the conference.

Warframe is listed as "Coming Soon" on the official Warframe website, meaning that it will hopefully be available in 2018.
