Warframe's next update, The New War, arrives on December 15, but Digital Extremes today gave fans an in-depth look at what they can expect to see when it drops. The most significant part of the update is a new Cinematic Quest that spans three acts, although you can also look forward to new playable characters, Open Worlds, and more.

Launching as a free update, all Warframe players will have access to The New War's sprawling Cinematic Quest line. According to Digital Extremes, this will be the first time in the game's history that players will get a chance to control other characters.

"The next and biggest chapter in Warframe’s free Cinematic Quest line, The New War will see players controlling new playable characters for the very first time as they work through dramatic twists and turns across Act 1, mastering the unique play styles of Kahl-175, Veso, and Teshin to experience war with the Sentients from different perspectives," reads a statement from Digital Extremes. "The full Cinematic Quest sends players on a journey across 3 massive acts, the latter two of which are being kept a secret until launch."

Apparently, Acts 2 and 3 will be filled with "epic plot twists," so the team doesn't want to reveal much info about those sections of the expansion. However, they were more than happy to divulge plenty of information about Caliban – a new Warframe arriving on December 15. As a Sentient-Warframe hybrid, Caliban's passive allows him to resist various types of damage and stay alive during the heat of battle.

December 15 will also bring Harrow Prime Access, giving you instant access to the deadly Warframe along with a few key accessories.
