The world of Warhammer 40k: Boltgun is a grim and dark future full of terrors aplenty. Aliens, daemons, and everything in between all want to tear down the Imperium of Man. As one of the Emperor's finest space marines, you must destroy anything that threatens humanity.

The Emperor protects, but having some good weapons on hand doesn't hurt. Thankfully, the Emperor also provides. A slew of weapons are available to you to fight off the chaos cultists and retro-themed daemons that stand in your way. You just need to know which ones to have in your well-armored hands at any given moment.

9 Shotgun

A simple weapon, the Shotgun hasn't changed much in the future of the 41st millennium. It still delivers potent results too.

The concept is simple as ever. Point, shoot, pump, and shoot again. It's devastating against softer enemies at close range. Unfortunately, separated from those variables, it doesn't hold its weight as well and can quickly be overshadowed by other weapons.

8 Vengeance Launcher

A sort of futuristic approach to a grenade launcher. Explosive charges launched from a revolver-like magazine make this one of the more odd weapons in the game.

These projectiles beam toward their target before attaching to them. After a short delay, they will explode. It can be a great weapon for clearing smaller and more agile targets or grouped-together enemies thanks to the explosive payload.

Sadly, it isn't the easiest weapon to get the handle on, nor is it the deadliest. Those few seconds between shooting and explosion can mean losing valuable health.

7 Heavy Bolter

Think of a normal Bolter. Now make it bigger, louder, and heavier. That's a Heavy Bolter. It is the perfect weapon for when you don't really want or need to aim.

This is due to its heavy fire rate and equally heavy recoil. Hold down the trigger and watch your enemy's health slowly deteriorate. It chews through ammo and isn't as versatile as the typical Bolter, making it fall somewhat short.

6 Plasma Gun

A dangerous weapon in the lore, but thankfully it won't blow up on you in Boltgun. The Plasma Gun sends balls of searing plasma at your enemies.

These balls travel somewhat slowly compared to other projectiles, but they should be your go-to weapon for medium-armored opponents. The slow fire rate and smaller magazine also count against this weapon, but it is a solid standby.

5 Volkite Caliver

An energy weapon that is deadly against unarmored targets, it is one of the flashier guns you have to choose from.

Pretty much an upgraded version of a human lasgun, the Volkite Caliver sends a short beam of laser energy at your target. You have to consistently aim at the target to concentrate the beam and make sure it all hits. A complete hit will effectively melt any non-armored or lightly-armored cultist. It doesn't have as much bang as some other weapons, but it's a solid one for mopping up.

4 Melta Gun

The Melta gun uses a small cone of superheated air to melt through armor like butter. This is mainly used for enemy vehicles, but it is a solid choice for any medium-armored target.

It can easily turn Bloat Drones into piles of ash and rusted metal. The only drawback is it isn't as versatile as some of the other anti-armor weapons in the arsenal where range is considered. When you need to melt through something up close, though, this is your main choice.

3 Grav-Cannon

One of the most scientifically advanced weapons in our arsenal, or humanities in general, for that matter.

The Grav-Cannon is a special weapon that creates a powerful gravity field wherever the projectile lands, tearing apart enemies the more mass they have. This is perfect for making quick work of the heaviest armored enemies you run into. Don't forget to use this on groups of enemies for solid results.

2 Chainsword

Your only melee weapon in the game and the only one you'll ever need. The sight of this weapon alone is enough to strike fear into the corrupted hearts of chaos cultists.

This weapon's whirring monomolecular chain-teeth can cut through flesh with ease, but you may have a bit more trouble with armored enemies. With a game as fast-paced as Boltgun, you'll often find yourself using this weapon to weaken foes and deal a killing blow alike.

1 Bolter

Warhammer 40K Boltgun Mounted Cannon

For a game called Boltgun, you would only hope the titular weapon was the best one out there. Well, thankfully, you won't be disappointed here.

At its base, the bolter is devastating. Able to turn even the toughest foe into pixilated mist with a handful of shots. As the game progresses, you'll want to use the different ammo types to keep your Boltgun a viable option for the fight.

Kraken bolts can pierce through the armor of some of the tougher foes you see out there; Dragonfire rounds are incendiary and render cover almost obsolete; Vengeance rounds are made for the sole purpose of killing heretic astartes. With all of this variety, what's not to love?
