While Warhammer: Vermintide 2 might seem like a simple game at first glance, it’s not at all. There are a huge amount of variables that people can mess with to min-max in the game, especially counting all the different builds for each of the 18 subclasses spread across five characters.

Now, for most if not all of your time in the Recruit and Veteran difficulties, you can ignore or barely interact with a lot of these mechanics. But, once you start trying out the DLC maps or pumping every level to Champion/Legend difficulty, it becomes a different story. To help those of you just getting to that big difficulty spike, here are some of the most important tips to learn.

10 You Can Usually Find Methods To Defeat Enemies & Bosses More Easily

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - The Moment A Rat Ogre Gets Shoved Off A Cliff

The Assassin is an annoying special enemy, since it lunges and pins you to the ground, and even if it misses, the lunge keeps it out of melee range unless you're in a confined space. However, if you face it head-on and shove right as this Skaven Assassin is about to grapple you, you’ll shove it onto the ground and right in the path of your swings.

Now that was a tip for a specific type of special enemy, but almost every enemy type in this game has certain exploits that work incredibly well against them, even bosses. For example, if a boss spawns, see if there are any ledges nearby, and try to kite it over there. Once you do, have every player throw their bombs at the boss's feet or use knockback abilities like the Valiant Charge that the Foot Knight subclass for Kruber can use. If you manage to do it right, you can take out a boss immediately with little to no effort.

Tips like this become essential in the Expeditions of the new Chaos Wastes mode since you'll be fighting bosses often for extra rewards and Pilgrim's Coins.

9 You Can Block And Use Your Ability While Reviving Allies

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - Blocking Before Starting The Revive Animation

When enemies only take a single swing to kill and don’t hurt you much on Recruit or Veteran, it’s pretty easy to revive a teammate in the middle of a swarm. But, on the harder difficulties like Champion or Legend, it's a different story.

However, you can actually block while reviving if you just hold block then start the revive process, which almost functions as invincibility depending on your stamina and block angle (which is where Talents and crafted weapons really become important). Additionally, you can also use each character's special ability during the revive as well.

8 Any Buff To Healing Also Buffs Temp Health Generation

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - An Example Of A Healing Received Buff

Like previously mentioned, Vermintide 2 has quite a few stats to keep track of. But, your max health and temp health generation are two statistics that make a huge difference. A lot of players find out the hard way that health recovery doesn't actually stack with your temp health, it actually overwrites it.

This means that you'll want to wait until most of your temp health decays if you can before healing. Thankfully, if you look for certain talents or innate passives that buff your total healing received (like Kerillian's Sister of the Thorn passive, Eternal), this actually buffs your Temp Health generation by the same amount.

7 Comms Are Mandatory Past A Certain Point

This next one should go without saying, but comms are so incredibly important in Vermintide 2. People need to know when another player is getting swarmed, when someone is down, when consumables are found, or when a horde has spawned behind the group. The Ping system works well, but not nearly as well as communicating over voice chat.

So, if you’re attempting to do some high-level runs in Vermintide 2, make sure you have a working mic, or at the very least have voice chat enabled so you can hear your teammates when they communicate with you.

6 Trust Teammates To Do Their Jobs

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - Two Players Holding Back A Horde Incredibly Well

Something many players seem to struggle with, in general, is the concept of trusting other people to do their job. Not trusting teammates at all and being vocal about it is pretty much an iconic example of toxicity. But, in Vermintide 2, you’ll do better overall if you just trust that your teammates know what they’re doing.

Sure, that Sienna might be all by herself with a horde, but that’s likely so she can use her Pyromancy without worrying about friendly fire. Remember, these players (likely) had to put a ton of time to feel comfortable playing on the harder difficulties, just like you did, so just let them prove themselves first before immediately trying to “clean up after them”.

5 Mark Every Elite, Item, And Special Enemy

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - Pinging A Stormfiend That Fell Through The Floor

Pinging in Vermintide 2 is pretty much a core mechanic of the multiplayer game. You use it to point out special enemies, bosses, elite enemies, consumables, shrines, books, keys, and more.

Quite simply, this game is chaotic by design, and there's not much like it. But, because of that, it’s very hard to pay attention to small details while fighting off hordes of Chaos Knights, Skaven, and Beastmen. So, pinging the Ratling Gunner right as you spot it lets the ranged player take it out before it even spins up the gun.

4 Ranged And Melee Class Positioning And Awareness

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - A Ranged Player Downing A Melee One With Friendly Fire

This next one is likely one of the smaller tips, but it'll help a lot overall. That are quite a few ranged subclasses in Vermintide 2, from Sienna's Pyromancer subclass to Bardin's Ranged Veteran. And, the higher that difficulty rank goes, the more friendly fire starts to matter. So, try and always make sure that you’re not running in front of ally gunfire as the melee vanguard.

This means that during hordes, you should try and avoid strafing and only move backward or forward. Meanwhile, the ranged characters should make it their first priority to find an angle to fire on the Horde that isn't directly in the path of their allies. If the sniper shoots at an angle and the frontline doesn’t strafe, you'll find that levels become a lot easier.

3 Keep An Eye On Those Who Fall Behind

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - Looking At A Teammate Spawning Behind Us With No Way To Get Them

Here comes a tip that also applies to other games in the same genre. Basically, in all these games, there are special-type enemies whose sole mission is to grab one of your teammates and drag them away, pin them down, or even take control of them. There are quite a few enemies with this ability in Vermintide 2, such as the Skaven Assassin or Packmaster.

So, if you see that one of your teammates is pretty far behind, make sure someone goes back and keeps an eye on them as they catch up. Otherwise, the three of you might drop down right as your fourth gets grabbed, and when that happens it's over for them.

2 Keep Alert At All Times

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - Getting Swarmed By A Horde From Behind

While we’re on the topic of looking behind you, that’s actually one of the most important habits to learn for Vermintide 2, even early on. To be blunt, get used to constantly checking behind you whenever possible.

Enemies climb up cliffsides, drop down from above you, and sometimes even pop out of thin air when you’re not looking. It’s insanely easy to get surrounded by a horde suddenly in Vermintide 2, and when that happens on Legend, you might as well give up.

1 Be Intelligent With Your Healing

Warhammer Vermintide 2 - Looking At An Excess Of Healing Items

Lastly, you might think this is something people pick up pretty quickly in Vermintide, but you’d be surprised how greedy and ignorant people can be. Basically, with the way temp health works in Vermintide 2 in relation to permanent health, there’s almost no reason to use healing items unless you’re already wounded or you're about to jump into a chaotic fight where you won't be able to heal.

To put it simply, don’t use healing items unless there’s such an excess of them that you can heal and immediately replace the consumable used.
