A recent leak that suggested a new multiverse platform fighting game is in the works at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment might be credible after all, according to industry insider Jeff Grubb. However, Grubb debunks the part claiming NetherRealm Studios is developing the so-called Multiversus project. The leak initially surfaced on Reddit a couple of days ago. The anonymous source claimed that a new Warner Bros. crossover platform fighter is in development at NetherRealm Studios — primarily known for the Mortal Kombat and Injustice series. According to the leak, the project is technically a new IP, similar to Super Smash Bros. and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and will feature iconic characters from different franchises, such as Mad Max, The Lord of the Rings, Scooby-Doo, and more.Related: The Best Mortal Kombat X Characters Who Aren't In Mortal Kombat 11Soon after the leak surfaced, Grubb added what he knew of the project on Twitter, stating, "This WB platform fighter is real". Unfortunately, Grubb didn't add much to what the leak already said and didn't share if he had any more details on the unannounced game. Though, one thing Grubb has, in fact, clarified is that NetherRealm Studios is not working on this mysterious brawler. According to the insider, he believes that Ed Boon and his team are busy with Mortal Kombat 12 right now. In August, Grubb said that MK12 "would make the most sense because that's a game they [WB] know will make money." Sorry, Injustice fans.[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/JeffGrubb/status/1452325619983962122[/EMBED_TWITTER]Warner Bros. has not yet commented on the leak, so it remains to be seen if this crossover fighting is a real thing after all. However, with Grubb now confirming the rumor and the leaker providing a fresh copyright tag for a game called "Multiversus," it sure seems pretty convincing at this point. It's worth noting the original source believed the project may be announced at The Game Awards on December 9 or maybe sometime in early 2022. It looks like all we have to do now is wait for the publisher to officially unveil the surprising crossover and the studio behind it.
