It has been heavily implied by multiple sources that WB Games is working on a new game set in the DC Universe, and now one of its developers has confirmed that to be so.

In 2018, Insomniac set the superhero game world alight via the release of Marvel's Spider-Man. The critically-acclaimed PlayStation 4 exclusive was everything we wanted it to be, and continues to make headlines ten months on from its initial release. In fact, just last week, it surpassed Batman: Arkham City as the best-selling superhero game of all time.

Speaking of superhero games in general terms, the Batman: Arkham franchise really set the standard for what a superhero game in the modern era needs to be. It was clear to many that Spider-Man took the ball and ran with it in that regard. However, Spidey and Marvel's dominance over the superhero game genre this past year should be enough evidence that gamers are crying out for the return to consoles of The Dark Knight.

It has been four years since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight and, despite numerous rumors, there is still no word on what's coming next. However, WB Games developer Osama Dorias finally confirmed that the studio is currently working on a brand new game based in the DC Universe. He refused to comment on the genre and the inspiration behind it, but he admitted its "theme" is the DC franchise.

Now, Dorias has sparked even more speculation on what this project could be. One train of thought is that it will be a fresh Arkham game with a storyline that revolves around the Court of Owls. There has also been talk of a Suicide Squad title entering the fray. Materials leaked earlier this year point towards what looks like a Suidicde Squad-themed game inspired by the popularity of Destiny.

Dorias's tweet isn't exactly loaded with information, but it is something. After a lack of any announcements at E3 and later at San Diego Comic-Con, fans of the Arkham series were starting to become pretty restless. Since nothing has officially been announced, chances are we still have quite the wait on our hands for the next DC game. Hopefully, fans are given something a little more concrete about the title very soon.
