On the modern battlefield, choppers are death traps. They’re loud, obviously visible, and too slow to outmaneuver a shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile--of which there are plenty in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Short hops are fine, but spend more than a few minutes in one of those whirlybirds and you’re just asking to take a rocket to the face.

Now it's even worse to get in a chopper's bucket seats thanks to a new bug that's popped up in Warzone 2. As noted by Reddit user latenitelover, helicopters are just randomly exploding over Al Mazrah.

As you can see in the footage, latenitelover is just flying around, minding their own business, when BOOM! Instant Gulag. There's no missile warning, there's no small arms fire, there's just a sudden fireball and then it's time to fight for your right to revive.

There's no telling what happened here, but I did notice latenite's chopper suddenly pitch up just a split second before it exploded--almost like it had struck an invisible wall at full speed. As noted by PC Gamer, choppers having unpredictable interactions with in-game geometry has been a running theme in Warzone ever since the original game also had randomly exploding helicopters that may have also thought they were running into mountains. Even as early as last month, a chopper was spotted flying through a building with the pilot using its blades to kill enemy combatants. Somehow, this didn't register as a collision, and the chopper flew away unscathed.

Raven Software's Trello board doesn't list this bug, so the QA team either doesn't know about it or doesn't consider it a big enough deal to jot down. Probably because they're still trying to hash out a contract with Activision after forming the company's first union in the summer of last year. Those negotiations aren't moving fast as Activision seems to be dragging its feet on every issue the union raised. On top of that, Activision Blizzard QA teams are some of the lowest-paid game workers on the West coast, so there's probably not a lot of motivation to keep Warzone 2 bug-free. You get what you pay for, after all.
