The Wash Yo Hands tournament featured some of the best esports teams playing League of Legends to raise money for a COVID-19  fund. The teams involved included Flyquest, Immortals Gaming Club, Dignitas, and Cloud9. The event was put on in conjunction with the Softgiving fundraising platform.

The last few weeks have been a torrid time for esports events. The recent coronavirus pandemic has forced events to be cancelled worldwide in the interest of public safety. While the various leagues and events have been canceled, many esports companies have banded together to hold online events to raise money to fight the pandemic. The Wash Yo Hands Tournament is just one of many being held for this worthy cause.

The four esports organizations started the tournament on March 16 and it ran until March 19. The events can be watched on Twitch. It featured an online competition amongst the organization's League of Legends teams in a round-robin format. Each player was challenged to play off role, and there was a ban list with the 10 most competitive League of Legends champions.

The objective of the tournament was to raise money for the California Community Foundation’s COVID-19 LA County Response Fund. The other objective was to build awareness on how people can stop the further spread of the virus. The teams will donate every dollar raised to this fund and there was also the option for people to make donations on the website.

The teams are hoping that the Wash Yo Hands Tournament will continue past the current tournament and become a long-term charitable drive. Softgiving has created the landing page where people can donate, track the top donors, and track the total amount raised.

Many esports teams have been holding online events to raise money to battle COVID-19 with more events on the horizon. The top 24 Dota 2 teams are holding the WePlay! tournament from March 20 to 26. Faze Clan is also holding the Fight2fund Call of Duty: Warzone competition to fight for this cause.

With so many cancellations it's fantastic to see esports organizations finding an alternative that will help people overcome this deadly pandemic. Regardless of which esport you prefer, there's probably an event that's trying to raise money and it's our duty to help make a difference.
