Chromatic Games, the developer behind Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, has released a trailer for the game which reveals that it will be headed to the Switch.

Chromatic Games got its start as Trendy Entertainment Inc. in late 2009 and produced its first title, Dungeon Defense, in just four weeks. The game would serve as the blueprint for the first Dungeon Defenders game which would be released just two years afterward. Dungeon Defenders became an instant commercial success for the company, shipping out 600,000 copies in just two years after its release, causing Insight Venture Partners to invest 18.2 million into the startup. While it appeared that the game developer was on the rise, an investigative piece by Kotaku would unveil sexist business practices by the company and polices which required game designers and staff to work incredibly long hours. The report would cause Trendy Entertainment Inc. to cut ties with co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz who would go on to found Studio Wildcard and produce Ark: Survival Evolved. What followed was accusations of employee poaching by Trendy and a legal battle which ultimately ended in Stieglitz agreeing to pay the company $40 million. During this time the company would begin a Kickstarter campaign for its most recent title, Dungeon Defenders: Awakened and rebrand itself as Chromatic Games. Now, a recent trailer for the game on the company's YouTube channel has revealed it will be making its way to the Switch.

Game developers suffer setbacks all the time, but Chromatic Games was able to pull itself back up just in time to take advantage of the consumer support it was getting. It would have been easy for the company to completely collapse as a result, but the fact that it didn't is good news for its fans as it shows that the company is determined to succeed.

The game's recent announcement trailer can be found on the official Dungeon Defenders YouTube channel. Within it, we are greeted with a ton of cutaway shots which showcase how the game can be played both on your television and the Switch console itself. It does a good job of showing how the Joy-Cons will be used and even seems to indicate that other controllers can be used with the game also. Additionally, it is revealed that players will be able to play side-by-side using the same Switch console thanks to the implementation of a split-screen. While the trailer doesn't reveal the exact date for the release of the game on the Switch, the Nintendo shop lists the game as coming out sometime in February of next year.

Additionally, the trailer reveals that the company put a lot of thought into how the Switch would be used and optimized the game to play in all sorts of environments. While it seems a bit sudden, Chromatic's decision to announce that the game is coming to the Switch in only a few months seems to indicate that they are confident in the end product.
